Jonas Vingegaard sealed the Volta a Catalunya title with a strong performance, maintaining his impressive start to the season. The Danish rider topped the general classification, finishing one minute and 22 seconds ahead of France's Lenny Martinez and German Florian Lipowitz, who was eight seconds further back.
In the final stage, Australian rider Brady Gilmore sprinted to a surprise victory, edging out a tough field. Vingegaard's win adds to his growing list of achievements, solidifying his position as a top contender in the cycling world.
Australian cyclist Gilmore took the win in a thrilling bunch sprint finale, edging out Dorian Godon and Remco Evenepoel in Barcelona. Gilmore was racing with Andres Iniesta's NSN team, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
The 95km final stage featured seven circuits of Montjuic, the same venue where the Tour de France will kick off in July.
Vingegaard dominated in the Pyrenees, taking solo wins in stages five and six to secure the Volta a Catalunya title. The Dane's winning streak continues, following his Paris-Nice triumph earlier this month. Now, he's eyeing a Giro-Tour double later this year.
“We won two stages and now the GC, it's been a really good week and we're super happy with it, I'm super happy with it,” said Vingegaard.
“It's been an amazing start to the year for me and I hope I can keep it going.”
Vingegaard's flying high, the Dane's got six wins in just two weeks, solidifying his position as a top cycling contender.
“I feel very good at the moment, my shape is very good, (but) not the very best yet - we made a plan this year to progressively get better over the year. I'm pretty sure I still have more in me.”
Dorian Godon looked poised to grab another sprint win, but Australian cyclist Gilmore pipped him at the post. Godon had already taken two sprint stages, but Gilmore's surprise win marked a highlight of the Volta a Catalunya finale.
“In the end, maybe I was just too confident; there was another rider who came from behind and nabbed it,” said Frenchman Godon, who won the points jersey.
“Still a good week, but disappointing today.”

Remco Evenepoel's chances of overall victory were scrapped after a crash and a tough uphill finish, but the Belgian rider still put on a show, attacking frequently. He had to settle for third place on the day, behind Gilmore and Godon.
Vingegaard chose to play it safe, focusing on defending his lead rather than going for a third consecutive stage win. The Tour de France champ said he was happy to secure the overall victory, solidifying his strong start to the season.
“My main focus today was the GC, and especially the Red Bull guys. They did a very good job today, they made me be there alone and tried to attack me on shift,” continued Vingegaard.
“Luckily I was able to defend myself and my GC. From there, it was more thinking about the GC rather than trying to win a stage.”
