Vicario to undergo hernia surgery, out for a month...

Tottenham Hotspur's goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to undergo hernia surgery next week, which could keep him sidelined for about a month. This is quite a blow for Spurs, considering Vicario has been a consistent presence in the team, appearing in every league game this season.

Despite the injury, Vicario is expected to play in Sunday's crucial Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. After the game, he'll undergo the surgery and start his rehabilitation. Antonin Kinsky is likely to take over in goal during Vicario's absence, which could be an opportunity for the young goalkeeper to redeem himself after a tough outing against Atletico Madrid.

Spurs said, “The minor procedure... has been timed to have as minimal an impact on our season as possible.” They're going into a three-week international break after Sunday's game against Nottingham Forest.

Vicario wasn't included in Italy's squad for Thursday's World Cup play-off against Northern Ireland. He last appeared for Italy in a 2-0 win over Moldova in November.

Vicario missed Italy's World Cup play-off squad, with Gianluigi Donnarumma starting against Norway instead. Donnarumma's Italy lost 4-1, sending them to the play-offs.

Italy qualified for the play-offs after that loss, with Norway taking the World Cup spot. Vicario's last Italy appearance was a 2-0 win over Moldova in November.

“It is hoped that he (Vicario) could return to action within the next month,” Spurs added.
