Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has withdrawn from the All England Open badminton tournament after narrowly escaping an explosion at Dubai International Airport. Sindhu was supposed to face Thailand's Supanida Katethong in the first round but couldn't make it to Birmingham due to flight cancellations and security concerns amid escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran.

Sindhu is now back home in Bangalore, safe and sound, and has expressed her gratitude to the Dubai authorities, airport staff, and everyone who helped her during the ordeal. “Back home in Bangalore and safe. The last few days have been intense and uncertain, but I'm truly grateful to be back to my house,” she tweeted.

PV Sindhu is finally back home in Bangalore after a harrowing experience in Dubai. The Indian badminton star was stranded at Dubai Airport over the weekend due to escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, which led to explosions near the airport, putting her and her coach's life at risk.

Sindhu had been on her way to Birmingham to participate in the All England Championships but was forced to withdraw due to the situation. She expressed her gratitude to the Dubai authorities, airport staff, and the Indian High Commission for ensuring her safe return. “The last few days have been intense and uncertain, but I'm truly grateful to be back at my house,” Sindhu wrote on X.

“The ordeal continues to unfold, and the situation is becoming more frightening by the hour. A few hours ago, there was an explosion close to where we were holed up at the airport,” she wrote on Instagram.

She said her coach narrowly avoided the worst, implying things could've gone much worse.

“My coach ran out of the area as he was closest to the smoke and debris. It was an extremely tense and scary moment for all of us.”

PV Sindhu updated her fans, saying her team is safe, and praised the airport workers and Indian officials for staying calm during the crisis. She expressed gratitude for their support, saying, "A heartfelt thank you to the incredible ground teams, Dubai authorities, airport staff, immigration, and every single person who stepped up and took such good care of us during a very difficult time”

“We are all safe now, thanks to the tireless efforts of the staff and authorities at the Dubai Airport. A special thanks as well to the Indian High Commission in Dubai for their support and constant assistance in helping keep us safe,” she said.
