Ekkelenkamp header sends Udinese past Genoa in Serie A

Udinese beat Genoa 2-0 in Serie A, with Ekkelenkamp's header and Keinan Davis' late goal securing the win. Kosta Runjaic's side move into 10th place.

Udinese's win puts them on 40 points, one behind Lazio (9th) and eight behind Atalanta (7th)...

Jurgen Ekkelenkamp's second-half header was the turning point as Udinese edged out Genoa, leapfrogging Sassuolo into 10th place in Serie A. Keinan Davis' injury-time goal sealed the win, capping a frustrating match for the home side, who felt they deserved at least a point.

Genoa had chances but couldn't capitalize, with Udinese's defensive resilience proving costly for the hosts. The win gives Udinese a boost heading into the next matchday.

Lorenzo Colombo's first-half shot hit the crossbar, followed closely by Ruslan Malinovskyi's free kick that also struck the woodwork. In the second half, a penalty appeal was overturned by VAR, a decision that ultimately proved costly.

Nicolo Zaniolo's clever lofted pass into the box led to the game's first goal in the 66th minute. Ekkelenkamp met it with a composed header, tucking it into the middle of the goal.

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye had a relatively quiet game, making easy saves as Genoa's attacks lacked precision. Udinese sealed the win in stoppage time, with Keinan Davis scoring on the counter to make it 2-0.

Udinese's win puts them on 40 points, one behind Lazio (9th) and eight behind Atalanta (7th). European qualification's a long shot, but it's still mathematically possible, and this win boosts optimism around Kosta Runjaic's side as they build momentum in the season's second half.

Daniele De Rossi's Genoa are in a tricky spot after the loss, staying 14th but facing pressure as relegation rivals play this weekend. The gap above the bottom three could shrink, adding to their concerns.
