Bristol City appoints Roy Hodgson

Former England manager Roy Hodgson joins Bristol City as interim coach after Gerhard Struber's sacking, with seven games left in the Championship season.

“Roy's appointment is about more than the results of the next seven games...”

Roy Hodgson is back in the game! The 78-year-old former England and Liverpool manager has joined Bristol City as interim coach until the end of the season, replacing Gerhard Struber who was sacked after a six-match winless run.

Hodgson's appointment is seen as a bid to turn the club's fortunes around, with Bristol City currently 16th in the Championship and 12 points above the relegation zone. He's no stranger to the club, having previously managed them in 1982, his first coaching role in England. Hodgson's experience and expertise are expected to help the team finish the season strongly.

The 78-year-old, a seasoned coach, led Inter Milan to the UEFA Cup final in 1996-97 and Fulham to the Europa League final in 2009-10, having also been in charge of Crystal Palace.

Bristol are 12 points above the relegation zone with seven matches to go, but a recent slump, including an FA Cup exit to League One's Port Vale, has raised concerns.

“Roy's appointment is about more than the results of the next seven games. Over the remainder of the season, he will help ‌us set the standards and values at the club that ‌we will need to be successful going forwards,” Bristol CEO Charlie Boss said in a statement.

Next up for Bristol is Charlton Athletic on April 3rd.
