The Kansas City Chiefs have made a blockbuster trade, sending All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a haul of draft picks. McDuffie, 25, is headed to LA, reuniting with his former college coach Jimmy Lake, now an assistant with the Rams.
The deal includes the Rams sending the 29th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, a 2026 fifth-round pick, a 2026 sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-round pick to the Chiefs. The Rams retain the 13th overall pick, acquired from the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.
Trent McDuffie, the Kansas City Chiefs' 21st overall pick in the 2022 draft, has quickly become a cornerstone of the team's defense. After winning back-to-back Super Bowls, he's earned First-team All-Pro (2023) and Second-team All-Pro (2024) honors, cementing his status as one of the NFL's top corners.
McDuffie's stats speak for themselves: 55 games, 246 tackles, 34 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, 5.5 sacks, and 8 forced fumbles. In the playoffs, he's been just as impressive, with 41 tackles, 13 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble in 10 games.
LA Rams GM Les Snead hinted at a big trade involving a first-round pick, saying, “Is there an All-Pro that you could add? That would be nice,” when asked about bolstering the secondary.
Snead emphasized the team's plan to “attack” the cornerback position, indicating they're looking to make a splash.
The Rams' 2025 season ended in the NFC Championship Game with a 31-29 loss to eventual Super Bowl champs Seattle Seahawks. Their secondary's drop-off in performance, especially late in the season, left coach Sean McVay and staff concerned.
The Rams need to act now, with CBs Cobie Durant, Roger McCreary, and Akhello Witherspoon set to hit free agency, leaving gaps in the secondary.

Trent McDuffie's trade to the Rams was likely accelerated by his impending free agency and the Chiefs' inability to agree on a long-term deal. Now, he'll likely ink a massive extension with LA, making him one of the league's highest-paid CBs.
