Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, is confident that his old club can avoid relegation from the Premier League. Despite Spurs' current struggles, sitting one point above the relegation zone, Pochettino believes the team has the players and fan support to stay up.
Pochettino's focus is currently on leading the United States at the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11th. He's emphasized that his priority is the national team, but he's open to possibilities in the future, saying “Never, say never. In football, everything can happen.”
With Roberto De Zerbi in advanced talks to become Spurs' next head coach, Pochettino's potential return seems unlikely for now. However, he hasn't ruled out a future involvement with the club, stating, “With my connection to Tottenham, it's impossible to feel nothing about the club, the people that work there, and about the fans.”
Mauricio Pochettino's name has been linked to the Tottenham Hotspur job again, as the club continues searching for a new permanent coach after sacking Thomas Frank in February. Interim manager Igor Tudor left the London club on Sunday, paving the way for a new appointment.
Roberto De Zerbi, former Brighton & Hove Albion manager, is in advanced talks to become Spurs' next head coach, according to British media reports. De Zerbi, who left Marseille by mutual consent in February, is reportedly the favorite to take over, with talks suggesting a five-year contract.
“With my connection to Tottenham, it's impossible to feel nothing about Tottenham, about the club, the people that work there, and about the fans. That was one of the best experiences of my life,” Pochettino told reporters ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Portugal.
“That's my wish, and I am sure they're going to stay up, with a coach or without a coach, because of the players. I think there are the players and then it's a club with fans that are going to make everything to create the energy to win...”
Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, has had three stints in the Premier League: Southampton, a five-year tenure at Spurs, and a single season with Chelsea. During his time at Spurs, he led the team to the 2019 Champions League final and consistently placed them in the top four.

Spurs are currently struggling, sitting one point above the relegation zone after 31 games without a league win since December. This puts them at risk of being relegated from England's top flight for the first time since 1977.
“At the moment, I think we are very, very focused, full focus here on the World Cup. I think everyone knows that I am committed to the national team here. I think it's not a point to talk about the future at the moment,“ Pochettino added.
“Never, say never. In football, everything can happen.”
