| La Roja cruise to 3-0 win over Serbia in friendly |
Spain thrashes Serbia 3-0 in World Cup warm-up, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring a brace and Victor Munoz netting on debut under Luis de la Fuente.
With a comfortable two-goal cushion, La Roja eased off the gas at the start of the second period...
Mikel Oyarzabal's first-half brace led Spain to a convincing 3-0 friendly win over Serbia, extending their unbeaten streak against Serbia to nine matches (W5, D4). This impressive performance comes as Spain aims to maintain momentum ahead of the FIFA World Cup finals this summer, having suffered only one defeat in their last 26 international matches (W21, D4).
Oyarzabal's goals, scored in the 16th and 44th minutes, showcased Spain's attacking prowess, with substitute Victor Munoz adding a third goal in the 72nd minute. This victory serves as a confidence booster for Spain as they prepare to face Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay in Group H of the World Cup
Spain kicked off their match against Serbia with a star-studded lineup under Luis de la Fuente, and they quickly took control. Alex Baena had a promising chance, but his shot went over.
Despite the miss, Spain's pressure paid off when Fermin Lopez's clever pass set up Mikel Oyarzabal for a clinical finish into the far corner - a great start for La Roja.
Spain continued to dominate at home, building on their strong start. Lamine Yamal's long-range effort curled against the post, and Fermin's low strike was thwarted by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic - but the pressure kept mounting.
As half-time approached, Spain's dominance showed no signs of letting up. And they deservedly doubled their lead in the 43rd minute. Oyarzabal, the man of the moment, found space on the edge of the box and unleashed an unstoppable strike, leaving Milinkovic-Savic helpless. This was his 17th goal contribution in his last 10 caps (G11, A6).
With a comfortable two-goal cushion, La Roja eased off the gas at the start of the second period. Unai Simon made a smart save from Filip Kostic, but Serbia struggled to create chances.
Spain continued to control the game, even with several key players rotated. And they got a third goal with 20 minutes to go - debutant Victor Munoz scored a stunning outside-of-the-foot finish into the corner, after a neat flick from Ferran Torres.
Spain had chances to add more goals late on, but Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo couldn't beat Milinkovic-Savic from close range. Still, those misses didn't matter much as Spain cruised to a comfortable win.
Serbia's defeat marks their second away loss in seven matches, with two wins and three draws in that span. It's a disappointing result for them, especially since they missed out on World Cup qualification.
