Newcastle got a late scare at home. Lamine Yamal's stoppage-time penalty salvaged a 1-1 draw for Barca in the UCL last-16 first leg, denying Newcastle a win.
The Magpies had looked sharp early on, with Tonali and Elanga testing Barca's goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
Barca grew into the game after a frenzied start. They nearly got a lucky break when Dan Burn's deflection went narrowly wide of his own goal.
Newcastle's determined to bounce back from their league phase defeat to Barca, and they're putting the pressure on early on.
However, Eddie Howe’s men were unable to find the all-important finishing touch in the final third. Despite dominating possession, they're struggling to find that crucial goal, with Elanga's wicked cross just evading William Osula at the back post.
Having more than held their own in a closely-fought opening period, the Magpies remained on the front foot at the start of the second half, with Osula firing wastefully over from Lewis Hall’s well-timed through ball. Barca looked to threaten themselves at the other end, but Raphinha’s low cross was uncharacteristically swept wide by Robert Lewandowski.
Subs came in with 25 minutes left, but Jacob Murphy's introduction didn't quite spark the magic. The winger had a sitter and volleyed horribly over.
Newcastle kept pushing and almost scored in the 74th minute when Harvey Barnes' shot hit the post. Joelinton's rebound was ruled offside, but the Magpies wouldn't be denied for long. Four minutes later, Barnes scored a crucial goal, volleying home from Murphy's perfect delivery.

The Magpies’ joy was ultimately short-lived, though, as in the final minute of stoppage time, Malick Thiaw clumsily tripped Dani Olmo in the box, allowing Yamal to step up and confidently convert from the spot to shatter Toon hearts at the death.
It was a gut-wrenching end for Howe’s side, who must now pick themselves up as they travel to Catalonia next week with the tie fascinatingly poised.
