NBA recap: Detroit Pistons beat Golden State Warriors 115-101 to clinch Eastern Conference playoff berth. Plus, Celtics, Knicks, and Rockets updates.

Pistons secure playoffs, Celtics edge Grizzlies, and Rockets end Hawks' winning streak...

The Detroit Pistons edged the Golden State Warriors 115-101 to secure a playoff spot, becoming the first Eastern Conference team to do so. Jalen Duren led the charge with 23 points, while Daniss Jenkins chipped in 22. The Pistons clinched their 51st win despite missing star guard Cade Cunningham, who's out for at least two weeks with a collapsed lung.

The win marks a huge milestone for the Pistons, and they'll look to keep building momentum as they head into the playoffs.

Ausar Thompson contributed 7 of the Pistons' 16 steals as the Warriors' 26 turnovers translated to 32 points for Detroit.

“That was a point of emphasis for us going into the game, trying to figure out how our defense can create that chaos that we're looking for,” said Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff.

The Boston Celtics held on to second place in the East, coming from behind to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 117-112. Jaylen Brown led the charge with 30 points, while Luka Garza scored 11 of his 22 in the fourth quarter to seal the win, despite the Grizzlies being hit by injuries.

Memphis took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter and were up 103-102 with 5:33 remaining. But Boston unleashed a 10-0 scoring run to snatch the victory and stay ahead of the third-placed New York Knicks.

The Knicks edged the Brooklyn Nets 93-92, with Karl-Anthony Towns scoring 26 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, and Jalen Brunson adding 17 points and eight assists. The Knicks erased an early 13-point deficit, squandered a 14-point fourth-quarter lead, but emerged with the win.

Rockets End Hawks' Winning Streak in Blowout Victory

The Houston Rockets handed the Atlanta Hawks a 117-95 loss, snapping the Hawks' 11-game winning streak. Kevin Durant led the charge with 25 points, while Jabari Smith Jr. chipped in 23 points and nine rebounds. Alperen Sengun also made a significant impact, scoring 15 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists, bolstering Houston's playoff bid.

Key Players and Stats

Durant shot 9-of-15 from the field and added six assists, while Smith Jr. provided scoring balance and floor spacing. Sengun's performance was crucial, as he orchestrated the offense from the high post and facilitated ball movement. Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the Hawks with 21 points, but Atlanta struggled to match Houston's efficiency, shooting 42% overall and 26% from three-point range.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker's 21 points weren't enough to save the Hawks, as they slipped to seventh place in the East with a 117-95 loss.

Jerami Grant hit the go-ahead three with 21.3 seconds left, lifting the Portland Trail Blazers to a 108-104 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Julius Randle's basket had put the Timberwolves up 104-103 when Grant got the ball on an inbounds pass and drained a trey to make it 106-104.

Grant came up with a rebound on the other end and drilled a pair of free throws to seal the win. Grant finished with 26 points, Deni Avdija had 25 and Donovan Clingan had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Blazers.

Randle scored 19 points to lead the Timberwolves, who were again without injured All-Star Anthony Edwards.

In Denver, Jamal Murray dropped 31 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 23 off the bench, and Nikola Jokic contributed 22 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists, leading the Nuggets to a 121-115 win over the Toronto Raptors.

Jakob Poeltl led the Raptors with 23 points, despite Toronto's early lead – they were up by as many as 11 points in the third quarter.

Murray scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and Hardaway added nine to fuel Denver's comeback.

The score was knotted at 115-115 when Jokic's fadeaway basket gave the Nuggets the lead for good with 44.9 seconds remaining.
