Jonas Vingegaard wins Paris-Nice Stage 5 with stunning solo attack, extending lead in yellow jersey...

Jonas Vingegaard dominated the final climb, winning stage 5 of Paris-Nice and extending his lead in the yellow jersey. He broke away 21km from the finish, soloing to the top of Côte de Saint-Barthelemy le Plain.

Vingegaard showed incredible strength, attacking with 21km to go and riding away from the peloton. He finished ahead of Valentin Paret-Peintre and Harold Tejada, claiming his second win in two days.

Vingegaard beamed with energy, smiling and waving at cameras as he crossed the finish line at Colombier le Vieux. He won with a solid two-minute lead over Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal-QuickStep).

Vingegaard's GC lead just got bigger – he's now 3:22 ahead of Dani Martínez (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe), having started the day with a 52-second advantage.

“I really wanted to win today, and so did the team. They did an amazing job,” said Vingegaard afterwards.

"They made sure there was a good group out in the front, and then they kept the gap very short. We wanted to win and take as much time as possible, and once again, thanks to my teammates, they deserve the champagne tonight.”

Sweet revenge indeed. Vingegaard conquered the same treacherous climb that felled him last year, crushing it with a solo win and cementing his lead.

“It's nice to take revenge now, and to win here on such a beautiful day, the weather is beautiful, and it's been an amazing day for the team and me. For sure, it's not over; there are still three stages left, a lot can happen, but we just have to stay focused until Nice.”

The riders are off to Barbentane tomorrow for stage 6, a 179.2km ride to Apt, before the weekend finale.
