Swiatek splits with coach Fissette after Miami disaster

Iga Swiatek and coach Wim Fissette split after over 500 days together, citing disappointing results. Swiatek won Wimbledon under his guidance but struggled in 2025.

“I know there are a lot of questions, but I’ll let you know what’s next when the time is right...”

World number three Iga Swiatek has parted ways with her coach Wim Fissette after over 500 days together, including a Grand Slam title win. The split comes after a series of underwilling performances, notably her early Miami exit.

Swiatek's team remains intact apart from Fissette, who'd been advising her since Oct 2024. She's taking responsibility for the on-court struggles, saying, “Miami was tough for me. I feel disappointed, let down, of course there’s a sense of frustration and responsibility for what happened on court.”

But I’ve also drawn a lot of important conclusions that I’m taking with me, and I think that’s only human. At the same time, after many months of working together with coach Wim Fissette, I’ve decided to go my own way,” wrote Iga Swiatek on Instagram.

Swiatek thanked Fissette for his intense work and influence on her game, especially helping her achieve her Wimbledon win. She's keeping the rest of her team intact.

“I know there are a lot of questions, but I’ll let you know what’s next when the time is right. For now, I’m giving myself a moment to take care of myself, process this experience, and get ready for a new chapter. Step by step, because as I often say - it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” she continued.

Swiatek and Fissette started working together in October 2024, amidst a tough time for the Pole after a suspension for a banned substance. He helped her make some technical tweaks, with varying outcomes.

Swiatek's time with Fissette saw ups and downs. She struggled on clay but found success on grass, making her first final in Bad Homburg and winning Wimbledon. However, her 2025 season was a mixed bag - aside from the Wimbledon title, she only won one WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati, and her record against top players wasn't great.

Fissette reflected on their partnership, saying, “In 2018, I met Iga at the Wimbledon Champions’ Dinner after her junior title. Seven years later, we won it together. A beautiful story.”

“We both wanted to achieve more and worked hard for it, but we shared important moments and learned valuable lessons. Iga, I wish you the best of luck and success in your next challenges. I’m sure you’ll achieve them,” he wrote in a brief statement.
