Germany's World Cup Group E Schedule: Curacao, Ivory Coast, Ecuador
Germany looks to end major international trophy drought in Group E of the 2026 World Cup, starting with Curacao on June 14 in Houston. Matches against Ivory Coast and Ecuador follow.
“We have some players missing, yes it is a bit frustrating but we have a good team...”
Germany's coach Julian Nagelsmann is urging his team to put on a 'courageous performance' against Switzerland in their friendly match on Friday. The team is missing several key players, including Jamal Musiala, Felix Nmecha, and Aleksandar Pavlovic, due to injuries.
Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig has also withdrawn from the squad with a minor knee injury, and will miss the matches against Switzerland and Ghana. Despite these setbacks, Nagelsmann is looking to test his younger players and see how they perform in the lead-up to the World Cup.
Germany's got their eyes on the prize, aiming to bounce back from those shocking group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022. They're hungry to reclaim their spot as a global football powerhouse.
The tournament kicks off in June, with Mexico, the US, and Canada hosting the action. Coach Nagelsmann is keeping it real, saying he wants the team to show consistency, win or lose.
“We have some players missing, yes it is a bit frustrating but we have a good team,” Nagelsmann told a press conference on Thursday. “We have a number of players who can show themselves.”
Switzerland has requested 11 substitutions for their friendly match against Germany on Friday, aiming to test their players ahead of the World Cup. Coach Julian Nagelsmann isn't opposed to the idea, saying “I am no friend of 11 substitutions, but the wish came from the Swiss and I had no problem with it.”
Julian Nagelsmann says Jonas Urbig has left the national team as a precautionary measure and his injury is minor: "It's nothing serious, he could have continued training here with us, but I didn't want to push him too hard. That doesn't benefit him, it doesn't benefit us, it… pic.twitter.com/BqZdkwNXzW

Nagelsmann emphasized that he's looking for a courageous performance from his team, regardless of the result. Germany will be missing several key players, including Jamal Musiala, Felix Nmecha, and Aleksandar Pavlovic, due to injuries.
“When you want to see players tomorrow then you want to have a good structure around them,” Nagelsmann said.
“But I don't expect to substitute 11 players tomorrow,” he added.
Germany's been in a bit of a drought, not reaching a major international final since lifting the World Cup trophy in 201. Now, they're looking to break that curse in Group E, taking on Ecuador, Curacao, and Ivory Coast in the upcoming tournament.
The World Cup kicks off on June 11 and runs until July 19, with Germany eager to make a statement.
Germany's opening match is against Curacao on June 14 in Houston, Texas - sounds like a solid start. They'll then head to Toronto on June 20 to face Ivory Coast, and wrap up their group stage in New York on June 25 against Ecuador.
Switzerland's in Group B alongside Qatar, Canada, and a playoff winner still to be decided.
