Denmark takes on Czech Republic in World Cup play-off final, with a spot in the tournament on the line...
Denmark's coach, Brian Riemer, is calling Tuesday's World Cup play-off final against the Czech Republic the most important match of his career. A win would secure Denmark's spot in the upcoming World Cup, marking their third consecutive appearance.
The pressure is on, but Denmark is feeling confident after their 4-0 thrashing of North Macedonia in the playoff semi-final. Riemer knows the Czech Republic will be a tough opponent, especially with their set-piece strength led by Patrik Schick.
“Reaching a World Cup finals is something special and unique. It is an extraordinary experience that a manager might only encounter once in their career,” Riemer told reporters on Monday.
Riemer was cautious about the Czech team's set-piece threat, particularly with Patrik Schick leading their attack.
“We have prepared for it and analysed them. We have great faith in our players, and set-pieces are also part of their daily routine at their clubs. However, we are aware that set-pieces are a major strength for the Czech Republic,” he said.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund was confident that his teammates would step up and deliver when it matters most.
“It is probably one of the biggest games I have played in my career so far,” he told reporters.
“I am not exactly ancient yet, but I have still played a fair number of matches at a high level. There have been nerves, but it is about turning that into something positive.”
