Charlie McAvoy, defenseman for the Boston Bruins...

Charlie McAvoy is making waves in the NHL. He recently joined hockey legend Ray Bourque as the second Boston Bruins defenceman in the last 40 years to reach a nine-point streak after scoring his fifth goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. McAvoy, an Olympian who helped lift the U.S. to a gold medal win over Canada this year, has posted just one goal but has 10 assists during his historic streak.

With this achievement, McAvoy now brings his season total up to five goals and 36 assists through 47 games. He's been solid offensively and defensively, and his efforts are paying off.

The Boston Bruins suffered a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in their second game back from the break. Dan Vladar's outstanding goaltending, with 26 saves on 27 shots, led the Flyers to victory. Travis Konecny and Jamie Drysdale scored and assisted on each other's goals, while Sean Couturier added an empty-net goal.

Charlie McAvoy, 28, has been a Boston Bruins lince since being drafted 14th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut the following season and quickly made his mark, earning a spot on the 2017-2018 All-Rookie Team with seven goals and 25 assists in 63 games. McAvoy also placed fifth in Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) voting, showcasing his impressive rookie season.

McAvoy's evolved into one of the NHL's top defencemen, racking up at least 35 assists in four of the past five seasons. He set a career high with 12 goals in the 2023-2024 campaign, solidifying his reputation as a key player for the Bruins.

McAvoy needs 11 more assists this season, with just 23 games to go, to set a new single-season high. He's currently on a roll, and a strong finish could push him to a new peak.

McAvoy has 65 goals and 276 assists through 550 games, solidifying his position as one of the Bruins' all-time greats.
