Ponce had started the game strong, pitching 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and only one run allowed. Manager John Schneider reported that Ponce felt his knee hyperextend and is undergoing an MRI to assess the damage. This injury adds to the Blue Jays' pitching woes, with other starters like Shane Bieber and José Berrios already on the injured list.
Ponce was stretchered off the pitch, clearly struggling to put weight on his injury. No word yet on how bad it is or what exactly happened.
Ponce is back in the majors after a three-year absence, and it's his first season with Toronto. He was with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021 before heading overseas to Japan (2022-2024) and South Korea (2025). The Blue Jays inked him to a three-year, $30 million deal, counting on him to be a key back-end starter.
