Aalborg Handball struggle without Alec Smit after scans confirm worst-case...
Aalborg Handball is facing a tough blow with Alec Smit out for the season due to a nasty knee injury. The Dutch winger suffered a cruciate ligament injury during their league match against HOJ.
Smit's injury is a major blow for Aalborg, with scans confirming the worst-case scenario. He fell to the floor clutching his knee just after halftime, and now his team will have to cope without him for the rest of the season.
“As soon as I hit the floor in that sequence, I knew immediately that something was wrong. Unfortunately, the scan only confirmed what I myself feared, and unfortunately, it is not the first time that I have tried to get a cruciate ligament injury, so I know that there is a lot of work ahead before I can get back on the court,” says Smit to Aalborg's website.
Smit's contract runs out this season, so unless it's extended, Aalborg might've seen the last of him. That leaves Danish champions Aalborg with only Kristian Bjornsen on the right wing for the rest of the season.
