The Toronto Blue Jays' outfielder Anthony Santander is facing a tough break, undergoing left labral surgery and expected to miss 5-6 months of play. This news comes as a blow to the team, especially considering Santander's big five-year, $92.5 million deal signed before the 2025 season.
Last season, Santander struggled with injuries, playing only 54 games with a .175/.271/.294 slash line, six home runs, and 18 RBIs. Manager John Schneider mentioned Santander had a setback in January while ramping up his hitting, leading to the decision for surgery.
The 31-year-old Santander is entering his 10th season, having previously played as an All-Star for the Baltimore Orioles. With 161 home runs and 453 RBIs in 800 games, he's posted a .241 batting average.

Santander, from Margarita, Venezuela, started his MLB journey with the Orioles in 2017 and spent eight years there. He then signed a big contract with Toronto after a solid 2024 season - 44 home runs and 102 RBIs.
Santander's been dealing with injuries lately. Last season, he had a left shoulder subluxation and lower back issues, limiting his field time with the Jays.
