Latest development: Partey charged with two new rape counts, trial for original charges set for November 2026.

“Thomas Partey continues to deny all charges against him...”

Thomas Partey, Villarreal's midfielder, has been charged with two new counts of rape by the UK's Crown Prosecution Service.

The new charges relate to an earlier complaint alleging offences dating back to 2020, before those previously reported, and involve an additional woman.

The Metropolitan Police is treating new accusations against Partey as “non-recent offences” following a fresh investigation.

Partey is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 13th, 2026, regarding these new counts.

The 32-year-old, now playing for Villarreal in LaLiga, was already facing a separate set of serious charges.

Thomas Partey was charged last year with five counts of rape against two women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman, allegedly occurring while he was at Arsenal between 2021 and 2022.

He pleaded not guilty to these charges at Southwark Crown Court in September 2025, and his trial is set for November 2nd, 2026.

Thomas Partey is on conditional bail, allowing him to play for Villarreal while facing charges. His conditions include notifying police of international travel and avoiding contact with the complainants.

His lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said: “Thomas Partey continues to deny all charges against him. He has cooperated with the police throughout. Given there are ongoing legal proceedings, there will be no further comment”

Earlier Investigation and Court Appearances

Thomas Partey's legal troubles began with a complaint filed in February 2022, leading to a multi-year investigation. He was charged with five counts of rape and one of sexual assault in July 2025. Partey pleaded not guilty to these charges in September 2025 and is set to face trial on November 2, 2026.

The initial charges involve alleged incidents with three women, said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 while Partey played for Arsenal. UK law limits reporting details to protect proceedings.

Partey was granted conditional bail at Westminster Magistrates' Court in August 2025, with conditions including no contact with alleged victims and notifying police of moves or travel.

Partey confirmed his identity and pleaded not guilty at Southwark Crown Court in September 2025. His trial is set for autumn 2026 due to the UK Crown Court backlog.

Public and Media Reaction

Partey's case has sparked significant media attention and public debate, with discussions on how allegations are handled in football.

One alleged victim reportedly received online abuse linked to Partey's appearances on the pitch while he continued playing for Arsenal during the investigation. Would you like to know more about the case's impact or Partey's football career?

Partey joined Villarreal after his Arsenal contract expired in 2024/25. The club respects the legal process and presumption of innocence, stating this publicly.

He continues to play for Ghana internationally, remaining part of the national side ahead of the World Cup despite ongoing legal proceedings.

What's Next

The new charges will be handled separately, starting at the March hearing in Westminster, while the original case is set for November 2026 trial. All defendants are presumed innocent under UK law until proven guilty.
