Sir Alex Ferguson tips Hearts to win Scottish Premiership, end Celtic-Rangers duopoly. Hearts manager Derek McInnes gets valuable advice from Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson in title chase.
“He's done title wins and these sort of situations when there's a lot of high pressure...”
Derek McInnes, Hearts manager, reveals he's getting valuable tips from Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson as his team chases the Scottish Premiership title.
McInnes, who played under Walter Smith at Rangers, built a friendship with Ferguson, who's been sharing his expertise with the Hearts boss.
Ferguson and McInnes have kept in touch, and the United legend is expected at Tynecastle on Saturday to cheer Hearts on against Aberdeen. A win would put them top of the league, one step closer to their first title since 1960.
McInnes could make history as the first manager outside of Celtic or Rangers to win the Premiership since Ferguson's 1985 triumph with Aberdeen.
“I spoke to him again today, actually. He's coming to our game on Saturday, so I'm looking forward to catching up with him,“ McInnes said on Wednesday.
“He knows my players, he's well aware of who's who, and some of them still can't get their head around that when I tell them.”
Hearts lead Rangers by four points and Celtic by six, with the Hoops having a game in hand. McInnes hints that Ferguson's backing is with them to break the Old Firm's grip on the title.

McInnes is leveraging Ferguson's expertise, picking his brain after the legend's illustrious career with United, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
“He's good to give you little pointers and little nuggets of experience that he had in run-ins and things like that, so he's been good as gold,“ McInnes said.
“Every conversation I have with him I feel privileged and I always get something from it because he's lived it.
“He's done title wins and these sort of situations when there's a lot of high pressure. There's so much that he says is valid and worthwhile.
“It's nice that he's reached out to me and been speaking a lot recently.”
