Obasogie Suspended: Nigerian Goalkeeper Facing Match-Fixing Probe
Amas Obasogie suspended by Singida Black Stars over match-fixing allegations, latest development in his career after Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal.
“The club reminds all players and staff to uphold discipline, accountability, and respect for the club...”
Nigeria international goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars SC over match-fixing allegations. The club announced the decision in a statement, citing a precautionary measure to allow for a full investigation.
The suspension comes after Obasogie's impressive performance with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria won bronze. He's been a regular starter for Singida Black Stars in the Tanzanian Premier League. Another player, Khalid Aucho, was also suspended for three months for indiscipline and absenteeism.

No formal charges or evidence have been made public by Singida Black Stars or Tanzanian football authorities regarding Obasogie's actions. The scrutiny comes after Thursday's Tanzanian Premier League match against Namungo FC, where a late free kick was conceded.
The incident occurred in stoppage time, with Singida Black Stars leading 1-0, when Namungo FC was awarded a late free kick.
A routine delivery from Obasogie went wrong, and the ball spilled, giving Fabrice Ngoy the chance to pounce and score a dramatic equaliser.
In a separate development, midfielder Khalid Aucho has been suspended for three months by the Disciplinary Committee for alleged indiscipline and absenteeism, as announced by the CEO's Office and shared on the club's official X account.
“The leadership of Singida Black Stars SC, through the Disciplinary Committee, has taken disciplinary action against players Khalid Aucho and Amas Obasogie as follows:
“Khalid Aucho: Punished for indiscipline and absenteeism from work, suspended for 3 months.
“Amas Obasogie: Suspended for 3 months to allow investigation into match-fixing allegations.
“The club reminds all players and staff to uphold discipline, accountability, and respect for the club.”
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars a few seasons ago and has been a regular starter in the Tanzanian Premier League. He's also made a mark on the international scene, representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they finished third.
As third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho, Obasogie was part of a strong Nigerian squad.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper is waiting for the investigation's outcome, but the club hasn't specified which matches or incidents led to the probe.

Obasogie is the second Nigerian goalkeeper recently to face scrutiny over integrity issues, after Maduka Okoye's 2025 suspension in Italy for a betting-related case.
