Lindsey Vonn's olympic comeback cut short by complex tibia fracture

Lindsey Vonn discharged from Italian hospital after 4 surgeries, heads home for further treatment on complex tibia fracture.

“The love I have ‌for skiing remains. I am still looking forward to the moment when I can stand on the top...”

Lindsey Vonn has been discharged from the Italian hospital where she was being treated for a complex tibia fracture she suffered in a crash during the Olympics. The 2010 Olympic champion and second most successful female World Cup skier is now heading to Treviso airport to return to the US.

Vonn had undergone four surgeries in Italy and is expected to need another operation once she returns home. She's been praised for her resilience and determination, and fans are sending their support as she begins her recovery journey.

Lindsey Vonn, the 41-year-old US skier, is heading home after her fourth surgery went well. She's been at the Ca' Foncello Hospital in Treviso since last Sunday, recovering from a complex tibia fracture suffered during the Winter Olympics downhill.

Despite the progress, Vonn warns she's got a long way to go, with another operation scheduled in the US. She's been improving after some tough days, but recovery from a complex tibial fracture typically takes 8-11 months.

Lindsey Vonn had been eyeing a historic milestone - becoming the oldest Alpine skiing medallist in Olympic history. She was on a roll, having won two World Cup downhills this year and securing podium finishes in the other three.

“The love I have ‌for skiing remains. I am still looking forward to the moment when I can stand on the top of the mountain once more. And I will,” she said in the Instagram post on Saturday.

Lindsey Vonn's crash 13 seconds into her Olympic downhill race resulted in a complex tibia fracture, which is a serious injury requiring multiple surgeries. Orthopaedic specialists say recovery from this type of fracture typically takes 8-11 months before an athlete can return to competition?

Vonn, 41, has undergone four surgeries so far and is expected to need at least one more. Despite the challenging road ahead, she's staying positive and focused on her recovery. “I have no regrets,” she said in a post-surgery update. “The ride was worth the fall.”

Lindsey Vonn is drawing inspiration from Federica Brignone's incredible comeback story. Brignone, 35, won super-G gold in Cortina just 10 months after suffering multiple leg fractures and a torn ACL. Vonn praised her fellow skier, saying “Congrats Fede!! What an incredible comeback!!” on X.

Vonn's admiration for Brignone's achievement comes as she faces her own recovery journey after a complex tibia fracture during the Olympics. Despite her setback, Vonn remains positive and focused on her own comeback.
