Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 match against Nantes has been postponed to give them more rest between their Champions League last-16 ties with Chelsea. The match was originally scheduled for March 13-15, sandwiched between PSG's first leg against Chelsea on March 11 and the return leg at Stamford Bridge on March 17.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has agreed to reschedule the match to the week of April 20, allowing PSG to prepare for their Champions League tie without compromising their domestic schedule. This isn't the first time PSG has requested a postponement; they did the same last season, delaying a match against Nantes to focus on their Champions League quarterfinal against Aston Villa.
Liam Rosenior's Chelsea will face a tough Premier League match against Newcastle three days before their Champions League second leg against PSG. Chelsea is currently fifth in the Premier League, and this match will be a crucial test as they push for a top-four finish.
“At the request of Paris Saint-Germain, in order to best prepare for their two-legged tie against Chelsea... the LFP board of directors, in agreement with Nantes, have decided the Paris Saint-Germain-Nantes match will be played the week of April 20th,” the French league said in a statement Saturday.
“The exact date and time of the match will be determined later.”
PSG had a similar request granted last season, where they asked to postpone a Ligue 1 match against Nantes to focus on their Champions League quarterfinal against Aston Villa. This allowed them to better prepare for the European tie, and they ultimately came out victorious.
