EPL: Michael Carrick Rues Missed Chances in West Ham Draw

Michael Carrick's Man Utd side lacks cutting edge

Interim Man Utd boss Michael Carrick expresses frustration after Manchester United's 1-1 draw with West Ham. Carrick's side drops points in relegation battle.

“It didn't come easy and we found a way. We will take some positives from it...”

Manchester United's interim manager Michael Carrick was frustrated by his team's lack of cutting edge in their 1-1 draw against West Ham. “We were frustrated, we wanted to win the game,” Carrick said, reflecting on the underwhelming performance.

United trailed for most of the game after Tomas Soucek's 50th-minute strike, but managed to salvage a point thanks to a late equalizer. Carrick's side struggled to create clear chances, highlighting their attacking woes.

Manchester United narrowly avoided defeat against West Ham, thanks to Benjamin Sesko's 96th-minute equaliser, which secured a 1-1 draw. This result marked the first time Michael Carrick's side had dropped points in his five-match interim reign. Despite retaining fourth place in the Premier League, Carrick admitted his team lacked cohesion in the final third.

Sesko's goal was a welcome boost for United, who had struggled to create chances against a resilient West Ham defense. Carrick expressed frustration with his team's performance, citing a lack of intensity and sharpness in attack. The result leaves United fourth in the table, one point ahead of Chelsea.

“I think we were a little disappointed and we were definitely not at our best. It's times like that when you find a way and move on. I'm a little frustrated at that,” he said.

“It is a tough place to come and we didn't have that sharpness to find the answers. Great spirit again and we will take the point and move on.

“For where we are and being together for a short space of time, in the end we have to take a point.

“It didn't come easy and we found a way. We will take some positives from it.”

Benjamin Sesko's fifth goal in his last six games is a huge improvement from his woeful start to the season at Manchester United. The 22-year-old Slovenian striker had a tough time initially, but he's turned things around since joining United from RB Leipzig.

Sesko's recent form has been impressive, and interim manager Michael Carrick is thrilled with his progress.

“Fantastic finish. He has done it again. It is important. It is a great finish. Delighted for him. Another big goal and a good step,” Carrick said.

Manchester United's late equalizer, courtesy of Benjamin Sesko's 96th-minute strike, left West Ham United stuck in the relegation zone. West Ham, currently 18th, are just two points away from safety, with Nottingham Forest (17th) and Tottenham Hotspur (16th) breathing down their necks.

Michael Carrick, interim manager of Manchester United, hopes his former club West Ham can eventually climb away from the bottom three. Carrick's side dominated possession but struggled to create clear chances, highlighting their attacking woes. Despite the draw, United remain fourth in the Premier League table with 45 points from 26 games.
