Manchester United boss Michael Carrick is singing Benjamin Sesko's praises after the Slovenian's match-winning cameo against Everton. Sesko's cool finish secured a 1-0 win for United, marking his sixth goal in seven appearances since Ruben Amorim was sacked in January.
Sesko's impact off the bench has been immense, netting three goals in his last four appearances, including a late winner against Fulham and a stoppage-time equalizer against West Ham. Carrick praised Sesko's “ruthless finish“ and commended his confidence, saying, “It was a ruthless finish, I like the way he put it away with real confidence.”
Carrick also heaped praise on goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who made crucial saves to secure a third clean sheet in six games under Carrick's tenure.
The 22-year-old was on fire, scoring a late winner against Fulham and rescuing a point against West Ham deep into stoppage time in United's previous match. Sesko sparked the move that led to the winning goal, showcasing the impressive chemistry between United's £200 million trio of attacking signings.
The attacking lineup is clicking, with Sesko, Garnacho, and Hojlund combining to great effect. Their synergy on the pitch is giving fans hope for a successful season ahead.
Matheus Cunha set off on a great run, finding Bryan Mbeumo who delivered a perfect square pass for Sesko to slot home his sixth goal in seven games since Ruben Amorim's sacking in January. Sesko's finish was clinical, and manager Carrick praised his composure: “It was a ruthless finish, I like the way he put it away with real confidence.”
United's win pushed them into the top four in the Premier League, three points clear of Liverpool and Chelsea in the battle for a Champions League spot. This momentum could be crucial in the final stretch.
“Great play from Matheus and Bryan to set it up. Delighted for Ben again, coming on and making the difference.”
Manchester United's win over Everton wasn't exactly a sparkling performance, especially considering they've beaten top teams like Arsenal and Manchester City under Michael Carrick's first two matches in charge. However, Carrick was thrilled with the team's third clean sheet in six games, a significant improvement from holding opponents goalless just twice in 29 matches this season before his arrival.
"I'm really proud of the boys." 💬

Carrick praised goalkeeper Senne Lammens' outstanding performance, saying, “Senne was outstanding tonight... You want (a goalkeeper) to take the chaos away and Senne is that.” The team's defensive solidity, combined with Benjamin Sesko's ruthless finish, secured a 1-0 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
“We had to do a lot of work. Credit to Everton they made it difficult, made us defend our box a lot. The spirit with which we defended the box was top class,” added Carrick.
Senne Lammens, the 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, continues to impress at Manchester United with some crucial saves, marking an impressive debut season. He's been solid between the posts, keeping three clean sheets and conceding a goal every 82 minutes.
