Can Hamilton Conquer Bobsleigh?
Hamilton's Bobsleigh gamble

Jamaican sprinter Tyquendo Tracey believes Lewis Hamilton has what it takes to succeed in bobsleigh, citing his steering prowess.

“When you see people like Lewis Hamilton going around curves (at) 200-250 miles an hour...”

Jamaican sprinter Tyquendo Tracey thinks Lewis Hamilton would make a great Olympic bobsleigh driver if he decides to try something new after retiring from Formula 1. Tracey, who's competing in the Milano Cortina Games with Jamaica's four-man bobsleigh team, believes Hamilton's skills would translate well to the sport.

Tracey's team has a rich history, dating back to the 1988 “Cool Runnings” crew, which is one of Hamilton's favorite movies. Hamilton has even expressed interest in bobsleigh, and Tracey thinks he'd excel, given his experience navigating high-speed curves in Formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton, 41, might not match the raw speed of Jamaican sprinter Tyquendo Tracey, a national track champion and sub-10-second 100m runner. However, Hamilton's steering skills could give him an edge in bobsleigh, a sport he's expressed interest in trying.

“I think he (Hamilton) ‌would do well,” F1 fan Tracey said.

“When you see people like Lewis Hamilton going around curves (at) 200-250 miles an hour, he's going to have the eye for it to be able to manouvre a sled ... so, personally, I think he would do very well.”

Lewis Hamilton's connection to bobsleigh runs deep, inspired by the iconic movie 'Cool Runnings', which tells the story of Jamaica's first bobsleigh team breaking into a predominantly white sport - a narrative similar to his own journey in motorsport. The seven-time Formula 1 champion has expressed interest in trying bobsleigh, joking about creating a Grenadian team with friends.

Hamilton's skills could translate well to bobsleigh, with Jamaican sprinter Tyquendo Tracey suggesting his steering abilities would be an asset. An Olympic four-man bob can reach speeds of around 150 kilometers per hour, and Tracey believes Hamilton's experience navigating high-speed curves in Formula 1 would serve him well.

“If I was to do a Winter Olympic sport, it would be bobsledding,” he said in a recent Ferrari team video reflecting on his team's home Games. “I always wanted to do bobsledding.

“There's no Grenadian team, so maybe I would take my best friend Jan and then get a couple of other characters from Grenada and then create a bobsleigh team.”

Tyquendo Tracey praised Lewis Hamilton as a role model, highlighting his impact beyond Formula 1. As the most successful F1 driver and first Black champion, Hamilton's influence extends to inspiring athletes in other sports, including bobsleigh.

“I watched the new Formula One movie ‌that Lewis produced. And so, after doing that, I started paying more attention to Formula 1,” he added.

“That's my guy. He's my people in a sense. So he's automatically a role model for a lot of people just because of where he's from, you know, who he is.”
