Australia ended their disappointing T20 World Cup campaign on a high note, thrashing Oman by nine wickets in their final group match. This dominant display, however, came too late to salvage their disappointing tournament.

Chasing a modest target of 105, Australia's skipper Mitchell Marsh was unstoppable, ruthlessly dispatching Oman's bowlers to all corners of the park. He brought up his half-century off just 26 balls, inside the first powerplay, showcasing his aggressive batting style.

Oman's Shakeel Ahmed collided with wicketkeeper Vinayak Shukla while trying to catch Travis Head, who was caught and bowled off a top edge for 32. The incident didn't dampen the spirits of 38-year-old spinner Ahmed, who celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic goal celebration.

Australia's Marsh remained unbeaten on 64, hitting seven boundaries and four sixes to guide his team to a comfortable win with 62 balls to spare. This chase equalled the T20 World Cup record for the fastest chase of a total over 100.

Australia ended their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a third-place finish in Group B, securing two wins and two defeats. Captain Mitchell Marsh described this outcome as a “missed opportunity” for the 2021 champions. On the other hand, Oman finished last in the group with no wins, propping up the table with zero points.

Oman's skipper, Jatinder Singh, expressed pride in his team's participation despite the winless campaign, emphasizing the experience gained and lessons learned for future tournaments.

“Unfortunately, we didn't play our best in a couple of games that we needed to, and that's tournament play,” Marsh said.

“You lose that game to Zimbabwe, and you're under pressure and fair play to them, wish them all the best. But we're a very disappointed group.”

Australia's bowlers were on fire, dismissing Oman for a paltry 104 after winning the toss and opting to field. Adam Zampa was the star, finishing with impressive figures of 4-21. Fast bowler Xavier Bartlett set the tone, taking a wicket off the very first ball, removing Aamir Kaleem, and also getting skipper Jatinder Singh bowled.

Oman struggled to recover, with Australia's bowlers applying constant pressure. Zampa's four-wicketer was crucial in wrapping up Oman's innings.

Oman's batters struggled to capitalize on their starts, with Wasim Ali being the lone standout, scoring a gritty 32. He provided the only meaningful resistance as Australia's bowlers dominated, led by Adam Zampa's impressive four-wicket haul, his fourth in T20 World Cups.

Zampa's figures were 4-21 in 3.2 overs, showcasing his skill and precision. Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell also chipped in with two wickets each, contributing to Oman's collapse to 104 in 16.2 overs.
