Arne Slot Praises Salah's 'Unbelievable' Assist Record
Salah equals Gerrard's record as Liverpool edge Sunderland

Mohamed Salah equals Steven Gerrard's Liverpool assist record as Arne Slot's side beat Sunderland 1-0.

“He has so many records for this club, but to have this one combined with such a great player...”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot heaped praise on Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian star equalled the club's record for Premier League assists. Salah's perfectly weighted corner led to Virgil van Dijk's winner in Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Sunderland, taking him to 92 assists and level with Steven Gerrard's long-standing record.

Slot described Salah as “unbelievable” and hinted that he'll surpass Gerrard's record soon. “He has so many records for this club, but to have this one combined with such a great player. Both were unbelievable players for this club,” Slot said. “Unfortunately for Steven, I expect Mo to go above him. I don't expect, but I hope he goes above him.”

Mohamed Salah had a public spat with Liverpool manager Arne Slot earlier this season, accusing the club of “throwing him under the bus” after being dropped due to a dip in form. However, the Egyptian superstar quickly patched things up with Slot and is back in the fold, delivering impressive performances, including a recent assist that took him to 92 - level with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Salah's latest contribution helped Liverpool secure a crucial win, silencing speculation about his future at the club. His impressive stats and clutch performances continue to cement his status as an Anfield icon.

“He has so many records for this club, but to have this one combined with such a great player. Both were unbelievable players for this club,” Slot said.

“Unfortunately for Steven, I expect Mo to go above him. I don't expect, but I hope he goes above him.”

Liverpool's win at Sunderland ended the Black Cats' unbeaten home run in the top flight this season, giving Arne Slot's side a much-needed boost. The victory lifted Liverpool to 6th place, just 2 points off 5th-placed Chelsea and 3 points off 4th-placed Manchester United.

The win was a crucial step for Liverpool, snatching 3 points that could prove vital in the scramble for European qualification.

“Very important. I think we dug deep, after only two days of rest. Then going to a difficult away game. We showed again how well we can play on the ball,” Slot said.

“The character we have shown throughout the whole game was very good and that is why we leave this place with a 1-0 win.

“Second half, we had so many good moments and so many moments where we had quality players in promising positions.

“The overall performance in terms of work rate was really good.”

Liverpool's injury woes continue, with Japan midfielder Wataru Endo stretchered off in the first half against Sunderland. Endo was filling in at right-back due to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong's injuries, and Dominik Szoboszlai's suspension.

This latest injury blow leaves Arne Slot with more defensive concerns, having already struggled with a depleted squad.

“We don't expect a positive outcome. Like I said, we have to wait and see. We expect not to have him for quite a long time,” Slot said of Endo's injury.

“That is not the first time with our right full-backs. We have accepted this every time. We have to find solutions to keep performing well.”
