Dominik Szoboszlai scored a late penalty to secure a vital 1-0 win for Liverpool over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League. The Hungarian midfielder's 88th-minute spot kick gave Liverpool just their second win in seven matches.


Liverpool missed the services of Mohamed Salah, who was left out of the squad after his post-match rant following the 3-3 draw against Leeds United. The Egyptian forward had hit out at the club and manager Arne Slot, claiming he had been thrown “under the bus.”


Liverpool's players, led by Curtis Jones, made a strong start against Inter Milan, pushing aside the drama surrounding Mohamed Salah's absence. Jones was particularly impressive, forcing Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer into action early on, and setting the tone for a solid Liverpool performance.


Ibrahima Konaté thought he had opened the scoring for Liverpool, heading home a Virgil van Dijk knockdown, but the goal was ruled out after a lengthy VAR review. Hugo Ekitike was penalized for a handball, denying Konaté his second goal of the league phase.


Inter Milan grew into the game after the reprieve and threatened to take a half-time lead through Lautaro Martínez. The Argentine striker's powerful header tested Alisson's quick reactions, but the Liverpool goalkeeper was equal to the task.


The game slowed down after the break, with both teams struggling to break through the opposition's defense. Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike tried to inject some excitement, taking a long-range shot that was easily handled by Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
