Solbakken Slams FC Copenhagen Owners Over Lack of Facility Investment

Stale Solbakken

Former FC Copenhagen coach Stale Solbakken criticizes owners for prioritizing profits over training facilities, saying it has set the club back significantly in European football.

“I put Johan Lange on that case together with Daniel Rommedahl back in 2016-2017...”

Stale Solbakken's opening up about his time at FC Copenhagen, saying the owners prioritized their own interests over improving training facilities. He's not happy about it, and it's clear he's still frustrated. He tried to push for better facilities, but it fell on deaf ears.

Solbakken approached Johan Lange, the former technical director, about the issues, but nothing changed. Lange is now at Tottenham, and Solbakken's experience has left a bitter taste. The club's success on the pitch didn't translate to investment in the training ground, and that's a problem.

“I put Johan Lange on that case together with Daniel Rommedahl back in 2016-2017. There, I made Johan the prime mover to drive the process. We are now at the end of 2025. Johan is at Tottenham, Rommedahl is at Hillerod, I am on the Norwegian national team, and nothing has been done. That is because the owners do not want to. If they wanted to, they would have started the process,” says Solbakken to Bold.dk

FC Copenhagen's boss, Stale Solbakken, is furiouus about the lack of investment in training facilities. He's confident that it's held the club back, especially since other teams have been upgrading theirs. He's wondering why the owners didn't prioritize spending on facilities over lining their own pockets.

Solbakken's got a point - better facilities can make a big difference in player development and attracting top talent. It's surprising FC Copenhagen's owners haven't made it a priority, given the club's ambitions.

“As Scandinavia's largest club, Erik Skjaerbaek and Lars Seier have to dig into their pockets. If instead of taking out money in dividends every year, they had spent the money on building a training facility, then things would have been in place soon.”

FC Copenhagen hosts Sonderjyske at Parken Stadium on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 18:00 WAT in the Danish Superliga. FC Copenhagen is currently 4th in the league, while Sonderjyske is 5th. The home team is looking to steady their form after an uneven run, while Sonderjyske arrives with growing confidence and a lively scoring streak.
