Atalanta snapped their eight-game winless streak in Serie A with a 2-0 win over struggling Fiorentina, marking Raffaele Palladino's first Serie A victory as their manager. This win is a significant turnaround for Atalanta, who had been struggling, and it's also a tough break for Fiorentina, who remain winless under Paolo Vanoli.

The match was intense, with Fiorentina threatening early on, but Atalanta's goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made some incredible saves to keep the score level. The breakthrough came just before halftime when Odilon Kossounou scored with a stunning cross-shot that deceived Fiorentina's goalkeeper David De Gea. Atalanta sealed the win in the 51st minute when Ademola Lookman scored his second goal of the season, capitalizing on a defensive lapse.

Eager to deliver for their new boss, the visitors almost made the perfect start inside five minutes, with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi parrying Moise Kean’s effort before making a brilliant reflex save to deny Roberto Piccoli from the rebound.

His opposite number, David De Gea, was then called into action in the 13th minute, saving Charles De Ketelaere’s fierce effort down to his left.

Deadly saves! The former Spain international goalkeeper made a stunning save against Davide Zappacosta, denying him from a tight angle after Ademola Lookman's brilliant pass split the Fiorentina defense. Carnesecchi and De Gea also made impressive saves, with Carnesecchi stopping Piccoli one-on-one and De Gea pushing De Ketelaere's shot wide from 18 yards.

The game took a decisive turn just before halftime when Odilon Kossounou's stunning cross-shot caught David De Gea off guard, flying into the far corner for Kossounou's first goal for Atalanta. Fiorentina's hopes of an equalizer were quickly dashed as Moise Kean's close-range volley after the break was wayward, straight into Marco Carnesecchi's arms.

Atalanta capitalized on Fiorentina's mistake, scoring their fourth Serie A home win of 2025. Ademola Lookman pounced on a loose ball from a corner kick in the 51st minute, rifling it into the net. This goal marked the 11th set-piece league goal conceded by Fiorentina this season.

With Palladino’s side in control, De Gea then contorted himself to keep out Marten De Roon’s glancing header. Of all the visiting contingent, Kean was the most determined to salvage something and saw a header cleared off the line by Gianluca Scamacca, before nodding against the post 14 minutes from time.

Fiorentina could not find a way back into the contest despite his efforts, and the still-winless Viola (D6, L7) duly remain second-bottom of the table and five points from safety, while Atalanta have risen two places to 11th.
