Nigeria's Super Eagles have announced their 54-man preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, led by Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze. This squad marks a new chapter for the team, aiming to bounce back from their recent FIFA World Cup miss and secure a fourth African title.


The team is packed with talented players, including goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye, and Francis Uzoho, as well as defenders William Troost-Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina, and Calvin Bassey. Midfielders Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Raphael Onyedika are also part of the squad, alongside forwards Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Taiwo Awoniyi.


Coach Eric Chelle's squad features a mix of experienced internationals and new faces, including players from the Nigeria Premier Football League. The team will undergo training in Egypt before heading to Morocco for the tournament, which kicks off on December 21.

Former Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho is back in the mix, alongside Cyriel Dessers, Paul Onuachu, and Igoh Ogbu, who plays for Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic. This diverse pool of talent gives Chelle plenty of options to choose from.


The Super Eagles' preliminary squad features five players from the Nigeria Professional Football League: Ekeson Okorie (Nasarawa United), Chisom Orji (Warri Wolves), Abdulrasheed Shehu (Niger Tornadoes), Adekunle Adeleke (Abia Warriors), and Ebenezer Harcourt (Sporting Lagos).


Nigeria is in Group C, alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. The team will face Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in the group stage, with their first match against Tanzania's Taifa Stars on December 23rd at the Fez Stadium in Fez, Morocco.
