Bayer Leverkusen, buoyed by back-to-back away wins in Champions League, look to take a big step forward with a win over Newcastle United in Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen is looking to make a big move in the Champions League with a win over Newcastle United, according to their coach Kasper Hjulmand. The German side has been on a roll, with back-to-back away wins in the Champions League, including victories over Benfica and Manchester City.

Leverkusen's recent successes have put them in a good position, with eight points from five matches, just two points behind the top eight teams that automatically qualify for the round of 16. A win over Newcastle would be a huge boost for their campaign.

Newcastle, who are unbeaten in their last three games, will be a tough opponent, but Hjulmand is confident in his team's abilities. “It's a great team, with a lot of power. A lot of pressing forward. Very physical, very good set-pieces. So it's a difficult opponent, but so are we when we play our best,” Hjulmand said about Newcastle.

“We had a big push in this tournament with two wins... we are looking ‌to take a big, big step in the tournament with a win at home,” Hjulmand told reporters a day before his side host Newcastle.

Olympiacos' next fixtures are against Leverkusen at home and Villarreal away next month, the last two games of the Champions League group stage.

“It's a very good place ‌to be if we win this one, looking at the next two opponents. We will have more pressure for the last two games, of course, but it will give us some appetite to go for it,” the coach added.

Bayer Leverkusen's domestic form is a far cry from their European exploits. They've lost their last two Bundesliga games, including a 2-0 defeat to Augsburg, a team struggling at the bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United is riding high, unbeaten in their last three games with eight goals scored and only four conceded. They're currently a point above Leverkusen in the Champions League table, making them a tough opponent for the German side.
