Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads Gabon's AFCON charge with a star-studded squad, aiming to qualify for the knockout stage by the second match. The Panthers, who reached the AFCON quarterfinals in 1996 and 2012, are targeting a deep run in Morocco.

“It’s a very interesting group. In Africa, there is no good or bad draw: it all depends on the final result...”

Gabon's national team is gearing up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, and they've got a star-studded squad to make a mark. Coach Thierry Mouyouma has unveiled a 28-man team led by the experienced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who's determined to lead his team to victory.

The squad boasts talented players like Denis Bouanga from LAFC, veteran defender Bruno Ecuele Manga, and midfield maestro Mario Lemina from Galatasaray. With a mix of experienced players and young talent, Gabon is looking to make a deep run in the tournament.

Aubameyang, who had announced his retirement from international football in 2022, has changed his mind and is back to lead the charge. He's had a great season with Olympique Marseille, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. The 36-year-old is expected to be a game-changer for Gabon.

Gabon's group stage opponents include Cameroon, Mozambique, and defending champions Ivory Coast. Their first match is against Cameroon on December 24, followed by Mozambique on December 28, and Ivory Coast on December 31, all in Agadir.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is riding high into the AFCON, having enjoyed a superb campaign with Olympique de Marseille. In Ligue 1, the former Arsenal captain has impressed with five goals and five assists in 13 matches.

Aubameyang's form extends to the Champions League, where he's scored three goals and provided four assists in six appearances. At 36, he's showing no signs of slowing down, and will be looking to fire Marseille to success in the competition.

Malick Evouna's Return and Aubameyang's Revival Boost Gabon's AFCON Hopes

Malick Evouna is back in the Gabon squad, adding experience to the team. In a major boost, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is leading the charge after a superb season with Marseille, with five goals and five assists in 13 Ligue 1 matches, and three goals and four assists in six Champions League games.

Aubameyang had retired from international football in 2022, only to change his mind a year later. He's now determined to lead Gabon to success in the AFCON, and his experience will be crucial.

Urie-Michel Mboula, who's been out of action due to injury, has been included in the squad despite lacking match fitness. He'll be hoping to get some playing time and regain his form.

Loufilou, who didn't feature much in the World Cup qualifiers, has also made the cut, alongside Malick Evouna, who's returning to the national team after a three-year absence. Evouna, who's got 32 caps, has earned his recall through strong performances with Mangasport.

Coach Thierry Mouyouma has set a clear target for Gabon at the AFCON: qualify for the knockout stage by the second match. The Panthers, who've reached the quarterfinals twice before, are up against tough opponents in Group C - Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique.

“It’s a very interesting group. In Africa, there is no good or bad draw: it all depends on the final result. With a team progressing mentally, technically, tactically, and physically, starting against Cameroon is an advantage,” Mouyouma told CAFOnline.com.

“It will be a Central African derby. Then we face Mozambique. My objective is to secure qualification by the second match so that we can rotate the squad for the third game.”

Gabon has made seven AFCON appearances, with their best finishes being quarterfinals in 1996 and 2012. Despite being a regular participant, they've never qualified for a World Cup.
