David Moyes Aims to Bounce Back from Newcastle Defeat at Bournemouth

Everton boss David Moyes looks to turn the tide against Bournemouth after a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United.
“We're looking okay. Though, as I said, we went into the Newcastle game carrying a few boys with injuries from the game in midweek...”
Moyes Aiming to Bounce Back
Everton boss David Moyes is looking to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle, describing it as a “blip.” Moyes emphasized the need to move on, saying “You have to deal with what you get when it comes along, that is the way football is.”
Learning from Defeat
Moyes reflected on the defeat, stating that Everton had a “great result” against Manchester United on Monday, but couldn't replicate the performance on Saturday. He acknowledged that football is unpredictable, saying “We had a great result on the Monday night against Man Utd and not so good result on Saturday. But that is football for you.”
“The team has done so well. To think how well we have done from near enough this time last year to where we are now, how the players have been performing has been fantastic.
“We certainly carried a few injuries into that game I know that. We played against a really good Newcastle team who have been building over the last four or five years, it was a tough game for us but hopefully we will learn from it.”
David Moyes is aware that Bournemouth, Everton's upcoming opponents, are coming off a loss to Sunderland. Moyes is being cautious about the trip to Dean Court, acknowledging that the Cherries will be looking to bounce back.

He said, “Everton don't have a great record at Bournemouth so that is something we have to go there and change.
“We have said that about other stadiums and grounds so we will try and make sure we do it.
“It's probably one of the smallest Premier League grounds. But Bournemouth and the manager are doing an exceptional job with what they have available to them.
“So it's a tough encounter for any team going there.”
Injury Concerns
David Moyes admits that Everton's squad is stretched due to the time of season, saying, “We're looking okay. Though, as I said, we went into the Newcastle game carrying a few boys with injuries from the game in midweek.”
“So they played, though on another day, with other players available, they probably would not have been considered.
“But there's no excuses for that from our point of view. We're now getting into that part of the season where there's a lot of games, so there'll be more injuries, suspensions and the squad will be stretched.”
Thierno Barry's Progress
David Moyes was asked about Thierno Barry's form and impact, acknowledging the striker's moments but also his wait for his first goal with Everton. Moyes remains optimistic, highlighting Barry's contributions to the team.
Moyes said, “What we have chosen to do at the moment is giving him the opportunity to play, to show what he can do. I think it is great what the supporters have done, they have backed him big time, and it has given him great confidence. But saying that to get a cheer from supporters, you have to do the right things, you have to show you're willing. I think if you work hard enough, you will be well accepted.
“Ultimately, if you are trying to reach the top levels against Newcastle and others like that, then any small opportunity that comes around, you have to take your chances and score from them. We need him to come up with goals, that is part of the job if you are a number nine. But we are happy with the way he is playing at the moment. He is certainly beginning to get used to the Premier League and Everton.”
Moyes' Reflection on Newcastle Defeat
David Moyes acknowledged that Everton's 4-1 loss to Newcastle was a surprise, but also a reminder of the club's current standing and the distance they need to cover to compete with top teams. Moyes stated, “We were beaten by a far better team. We go again, you move on but Newcastle were much better than us.”

Everton's Path to Top Four
Despite the setback, Moyes remains optimistic about Everton's chances of breaking into the top four, emphasizing that it will take time. He highlighted the team's need to improve and learn from their mistakes, saying, “This has been a difficult run of fixtures for us... The plan is to do that on Tuesday night.”
“It's time,” he continued. “We played against a very good Newcastle team, which have been building for the past 4-5 years.
“Getting Champions League football and gaining experience from that as well. It was a tough game.
“(To get to their level) We need a little bit of time. But also, Newcastle have spent really well over those 4-5 years - and also made the right signings, which is an important thing, getting the recruitment right.”
David Moyes is managing Everton's injuries, saying, “We're looking okay. Though, as I said, we went into the Newcastle game carrying a few boys with injuries from the game in midweek,” and admits to juggling players, especially in defense.
He said, “None of them are available for the game.
"As you can see, we are missing Merlin (Rohl), we are missing an extra midfield player which we are lacking a little bit.
“Seamus (Coleman) would give us more cover at right back if he was available.
“Jarrod (Branthwaite) has been out for most of the season so we are a little bit limited to what we have got central defender wise. We're just a little bit short in those areas but we will be fine and we'll get through it.”
Moyes took a lighthearted jab at local media, poking fun at the narrative surrounding Everton's struggles at Bournemouth, showcasing his wit and ability to handle media scrutiny.
With a smile on his face, he replied: “One of these days, one of the questions from BBC Mersey is going to be positive...”
