Celtic appoint Wilfried Nancy as new manager, signing a 2.5-year contract. Nancy joins from MLS club Columbus Crew, where he won MLS Cup and Leagues Cup.

“He was the man we hoped could bring us through these last few weeks positively...”

Celtic have officially appointed Wilfried Nancy as their new manager, with the 48-year-old Frenchman signing a two-and-a-half-year contract. Nancy takes over from interim manager Martin O'Neill, who will lead the team for the last time in Wednesday's home game against Dundee.

Nancy joins Celtic from MLS club Columbus Crew, where he achieved significant success, winning the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup, and being named MLS Coach of the Year in 2024. Prior to his time at Columbus Crew, he won the Canadian Championship in his first managerial role at CF Montreal.

“I am so happy to be named Celtic Manager, it is a massive honour for myself and my family,” Nancy said in a club statement.

“I know the history, I know the values of Celtic and I know what is expected of me on this journey.”

Brendan Rodgers resigned in late October, ending his second stint at Celtic after a 3-1 loss to Hearts. Martin O'Neill stepped in as interim manager, leading the team to four consecutive league wins, closing the gap with Hearts to two points, with a game in hand.

Celtic's struggles under Rodgers included a Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty, but O'Neill's interim tenure showed promise, keeping them in contention.

“I want to add my heartfelt thanks to Martin for all he has done in recent weeks,” Celtic's principal shareholder Dermot Desmond said.

“He was the man we hoped could bring us through these last few weeks positively.”
