Wout Weghorst has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad due to minor symptoms, according to the KNVB. The Ajax striker was going to have his fitness re-evaluated ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier against Poland, but it wasn't enough to keep him in the team.

Weghorst's withdrawal means manager Ronald Koeman has had to make some changes. Strasbourg's Emmanuel Emegha has been called up as a replacement, and he's expected to make his debut for the Netherlands. Emegha has been in great form, scoring six goals and assisting two in eight games for Strasbourg.

The Ajax striker, Brian Brobbey, hasn't scored for the Netherlands in 2025 yet, with his last goal dating back to November 16th, 2024, in a Nations League game against Hungary. He's been struggling to find the back of the net, scoring only one goal in 12 official matches this season, which was against Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Europa League.

Emmanuel Emegha has received his first senior call-up to the Netherlands national team, replacing Wout Weghorst who is struggling with fitness issues. Emegha, who will join Chelsea in 2026, has been impressive for Strasbourg, scoring six goals and assisting two in eight games across all competitions.

The 22-year-old striker's form has caught the attention of manager Ronald Koeman, who needs reliable depth up front for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania. The Netherlands currently lead Group G with 16 points, three more than Poland, and a win against Poland would virtually seal their place in the 2026 World Cup finals.
