AS Roma beat Rangers 2-0 in UEFA Europa League, boosting top 8 chances

AS Roma secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox Stadium, boosting their chances of finishing in the top eight of the UEFA Europa League league phase.


Rangers worked hard to find a goal, with Danilo's shot superbly blocked by Mile Svilar, but it was too little, too late...


Rangers suffered a 2-0 defeat to Roma at Ibrox, leaving them bottom of the Europa League table. Roma bounced back to winning ways, with Matias Soule scoring his first UEL goal of the season, heading home a Bryan Cristante flick from a corner-kick.


Rangers responded well to the setback, with Youssef Chermiti coming close to equalizing, but his shot from inside the penalty area was just wide of the target.


Roma took advantage of Rangers' static defending to double their lead in the 36th minute, with Artem Dovbyk setting up Lorenzo Pellegrini for a beautiful goal, confidently placing the ball past Jack Butland into the bottom corner.


Roma could have gone further ahead on the stroke of halftime, with Matias Soule's strike from just outside the box narrowly missing the post.




Rangers searched for a lifeline in the second half, with chances falling to Mikey Moore and Youssef Chermiti, but they couldn't find a goal. Moore's effort went wide, while Chermiti hit the side-netting from close range, failing to trouble Mile Svilar.


Roma had a chance to kill the game off with 20 minutes remaining, but Zeki Çelik inexplicably hit the bar from inside the six-yard box.


Rangers worked hard to find a goal, with Danilo's shot superbly blocked by Mile Svilar, but it was too little, too late. The damage had already been done by halftime, and Roma's 2-0 win was never really in doubt.


Roma's recent struggles in the UEL were put to rest with a 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox, giving Gian Piero Gasperini's side a much-needed boost. The victory propels Roma into the top 20 at the halfway stage of the league phase, a testament to their strong performance.


Rangers, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table, still searching for their first point. Despite their efforts, Danny Röhl's team couldn't find a way past Roma's defense, highlighting the challenges they'll face in their quest for points
