Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's stunning double helped Marseille come from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League, ending their 12-match winless run against English opposition. Aubameyang's first goal came when he latched onto a through pass, beating Nick Pope to the ball and curling it into the net. Just four minutes later, he tapped home Timothy Weah's cross to complete the turnaround. Marseille held on for the win, despite Newcastle's late pressure.
Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle's goal, netting his fourth goal in three games after Sandro Tonali's low cross fell kindly for him. Barnes' goal gave Newcastle an early lead, but Marseille pushed hard for an equalizer with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the charge.
Aubameyang had several chances, including a sharp turn that Nick Pope saved, and two late misses, heading wide from close range and flashing his next chance wide while tussling with Malick Thiaw. Despite Aubameyang's efforts, Newcastle went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Newcastle United had maintained a clean sheet in the first half, being one of only four teams to not concede a goal in the Champions League this term. However, their streak was short-lived, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored just 19 seconds into the second half. The veteran striker outmaneuvered Nick Pope and curled the ball into the post from wide on the right.

Aubameyang completed the turnaround within four minutes, tapping home Timothy Weah's cross to seal Marseille's 2-1 win. This was Aubameyang's eighth goal in 10 meetings against Newcastle and his sixth goal contribution in five Champions League games this term.
Newcastle pushed hard for an equalizer, with Joe Willock's shot forcing Geronimo Rulli to make a crucial save just before the hour mark. Despite their efforts, the visitors couldn't find a way past Marseille's defense, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's double proved decisive in securing the win for the home side.
Aubameyang's goals were a major factor in Marseille's victory, and his performance was impressive, considering he's 36 years old. "I'm very happy to be here in this club, to enjoy moments like tonight," he said in an interview. Newcastle, despite the loss, remains in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages, with nine points from their games.
