Galatasaray exacted revenge for last year's UEFA Europa League defeat by thrashing Ajax 3-0 in Amsterdam. This dominant win kept Ajax without points in the League Phase.
Ajax's campaign has gotten off to a disastrous start, with losses to Inter (2-0), Olympique Marseille (4-0), and Chelsea (5-1) in their opening three matches. Against Galatasaray, Ajax coach John Heitinga made a surprising tactical switch, starting Youri Regeer on the right wing in a bid to shake things up for his struggling side.
Galatasaray started strong, creating early opportunities for Victor Osimhen. However, the Nigerian striker's volley and subsequent header from a corner were expertly saved by 41-year-old goalkeeper Remko Pasveer.

Ajax's first shot on goal didn't come until the 33rd minute, courtesy of Jorthy Mokio's lackluster effort, which was easily saved by Ugurcan Cakir. The Turkish goalkeeper faced a more significant threat shortly after, but Oscar Gloukh's shot sailed wide of the target.
Pasveer's troubles continued in the second half when he failed to catch a shot from Roland Sallai, but fortunately for him, Victor Osimhen was flagged offside, denying Galatasaray a crucial goal.
Victor Osimhen's wait for a goal in Amsterdam was short-lived. He cleverly maneuvered between Josip Sutalo and Remko Pasveer to head in Leroy Sane's cross, giving Galatasaray the lead.

Ajax's struggles continued as they conceded a penalty when Youri Baas handled a Galatasaray cross. Osimhen stepped up and confidently slotted the spot kick into the left corner, doubling Galatasaray's advantage and leaving Ajax reeling.
Ajax had a golden chance to get back into the game when Ugurcan Cakir's mishandling of Oscar Gloukh's deep ball presented Mika Godts with a one-on-one opportunity. However, Godts couldn't capitalize on the error.
Instead of Ajax reducing the deficit, Victor Osimhen scored his third goal of the evening after Champions League debutant Gerald Alders gave away a penalty. Osimhen coolly converted the spot kick, leaving Pasveer with no chance and sealing a 3-0 win for Galatasaray. In the dying seconds, Mauro Icardi hit the post with a remarkable cross-body shot, almost sealing a fourth goal for the Turkish side.
