Robert Lewandowski Makes History at Camp Nou in Barcelona's
Barcelona celebrates Camp Nou reopening with 4-0 thrashing of Athletic Bilbao. Robert Lewandowski scores first goal at rebuilt Camp Nou in Barcelona's win over Athletic Bilbao.
“We all know this game is going to be something that we're going to remember long-term...”
Robert Lewandowski scored the first goal at the rebuilt Camp Nou stadium and he'll never forget it. The Barcelona striker opened the scoring in the 4-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, getting Barca's inauguration party started in style.
Lewandowski, who's no stranger to scoring big goals, said he's got a special memory of this one. “I'll remember this goal forever,” he said, grinning from ear to ear. And he's not done yet, folks.
Barca finally reopened Camp Nou, albeit with some delay, and Lewandowski marked the occasion with a goal! The stadium's reopening was initially planned for a year ago, but construction issues and other problems pushed the date back.
“It was a special day, not only for me but for everyone. Because of this, I'm very happy that I could score the first goal, coming back to Camp Nou,” Lewandowski said, visibly thrilled. “I'll remember this goal forever,” he added, and we can bet the fans will too.
“I have so much experience playing in different stadiums, but here is something special. I'm very proud of myself and also of the team because we did a great job today and we won.
“I think this first goal for me is something that I'm going to remember forever.”
The win was a great boost for Barca, putting them level on points with Real Madrid at the top of LaLiga! It was also a much-needed improvement from their recent performances, and the team looked sharp and hungry for the win.
“I already felt two, three days ago when I came back from the national team to the club, I felt special emotions, that something special (is going to happen),” continued Lewandowski.
“We all know this game is going to be something that we're going to remember long-term.”

Hansi Flick, Barcelona's coach, is singing Robert Lewandowski's praises! He thinks Lewandowski is reminiscent of his best days at Bayern Munich, saying, “He's the same player I remember from Bayern Munich, the only one I know, in the penalty area he's the best.”
“He's a player that when he has a chance it's normal that nearly 100% (of the time) that he scores,” Flick told reporters.
“It was very important today that we score very early, because it gives us the confidence we need.”
The atmosphere was electric at Camp Nou, with around 45,000 fans packing the three open stands! The energy was palpable, despite the third tier still being under construction. The renovation project is ongoing, with completion now expected in 2027, a year behind the original schedule.
