Genoa has officially appointed Daniele De Rossi as their new manager, replacing Patrick Vieira, who was sacked earlier this week. De Rossi's appointment comes as the club looks to turn its fortunes around and escape the relegation zone in Serie A.
Vieira's departure follows a disappointing start to the season, with Genoa failing to secure a win in their first nine matches, accumulating three draws and six losses, and sitting at the bottom of the Serie A table.
However, Genoa bounced back with a crucial 2-1 win at Sassuolo over the weekend, courtesy of Domenico Criscito's interim management, lifting them to 18th place and level on six points with 17th-placed Pisa, who are currently safe from relegation.
“Genoa CFC announces that Daniele De Rossi has been appointed head coach of the first team,” the club said in a statement.
“The new coach has already met with the players and will lead the afternoon training session scheduled at the Signorini Sports Centre.”

Daniele De Rossi, 42, transitioned from player to head coach at AS Roma in January 2024, succeeding José Mourinho. During his tenure, Roma secured a sixth-place finish in Serie A and reached the Europa League semi-finals, earning him a contract extension until 2027. Despite this, De Rossi was let go in September due to a disappointing start to the season, culminating in a 1-1 draw against Genoa.
