Iga Swiatek's dominant form deserted her in the final set, allowing Emma Navarro to pull off a stunning 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 upset in Beijing.

“I'm feeling good, but there's always stuff to get better at...”

Iga Swiatek's impressive run in Beijing came to an end with a stunning 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 loss to Emma Navarro in the fourth round of the China Open. Despite winning the first set 6-4, Swiatek struggled to maintain her momentum, ultimately collapsing in the final set where Navarro dominated 6-0.

Emma Navarro delivered a remarkable performance, securing her third win against a Top-2 player and her first-ever victory over Swiatek. The American's strong service games and precise returns paid off, allowing her to take control of the match in the decisive set. Navarro's win marks her best result in a WTA 1000 event this season and guarantees her return to the Top-15, ranking her World No. 14.

“I definitely had some adjusting to do after our last couple times playing,” said Navarro, who had lost both previous meetings to Swiatek.

“I wanted to come out and play calm and steady and focused tennis.

“I did that, so I'm happy with the way the match went tonight.”

Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek faced a tough start, saving four break points in the opening game. However, she struggled throughout the first set, hitting several shots just long.

Swiatek regained her form in the second set, firing six aces past her American opponent and taking control. However, her momentum waned in the deciding set.

Swiatek's collapse in the final set was stark, and she ultimately went out with a disappointing performance, failing to capitalize on her earlier success.

“I'm feeling good, but there's always stuff to get better at,” Navarro added.

“Lots to work on, but I'll try to enjoy this one and then it's back to work tomorrow.”

Iga Swiatek arrived in Beijing fresh off her 25th career title win in Seoul, where she defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 in the final. This victory marked her third title of the season, following her wins at Wimbledon and Cincinnati. Swiatek's strong form continued in Beijing, where she cruised past wildcard Yuan Yue in her opener.

Swiatek advanced to the last 16 after Camila Osorio retired hurt, allowing her to conserve energy for the next round. However, her winning streak was snapped in a shocking upset loss to Emma Navarro, with the scores 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Britain's Sonay Kartal pulled off another surprise, beating world number five Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. This win marked Kartal's first top-10 victory, and she'll now face world number 27 Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic in her first 1000-level quarterfinal. Kartal, ranked 81st, will look to continue her impressive form against Noskova.

What's Next for Navarro?

Navarro will face the winner of the match between Jessica Pegula and Marta Kostyuk in the quarterfinals. This matchup could set up an intriguing battle between two talented American players, as Navarro joins fellow compatriots Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals.
