The Seattle Mariners took Game 1 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Toronto Blue Jays with a 3-1 victory. Cal Raleigh and Jorge Polanco delivered clutch hits, helping the Mariners secure their win. This comes after Seattle won three of four games against Toronto earlier this year.

Toronto Blue Jays' George Springer got the team on the board early with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. This marked the first leadoff home run in Blue Jays postseason history. Springer's impressive performance also earned him a spot on the all-time postseason home run list, surpassing Derek Jeter with his 21st postseason homer.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was on fire in the early innings of Game 1, shutting down the Mariners through five scoreless frames. However, his dominance was eventually broken by a clutch performance from Seattle's star player.

In the top of the sixth inning, with two outs and the game tied 1-1, Seattle's Raleigh delivered a crucial hit to tie the game. The hit snapped Gausman's shutout bid and gave the Mariners much-needed momentum. Raleigh's clutch performance solidified his MVP candidacy and changed the game's dynamics.

The game took a crucial turn when Kevin Gausman walked Julio Rodriguez after Raleigh's home run. The Blue Jays responded by bringing in reliever Brendon Little, but he threw a wild pitch that allowed Rodriguez to advance to second base. This set the stage for Jorge Polanco, the Mariners' hero from Game 5 of the ALDS, to deliver a clutch RBI single.

Polanco's single proved decisive as it plated Rodriguez, giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead. The hit highlighted the team's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and demonstrated their determination to take control of the game. The Mariners' strategy and execution came together perfectly, allowing them to seize the momentum and take the lead.

The Blue Jays faced a tense situation in the top of the seventh inning. Reliever Brendon Little was replaced by Louis Varland, who promptly gave up a double to Eugenio Suarez. The Mariners capitalized on the opportunity as Dominic Canzone hit a ground ball that advanced Suarez to third base, putting the potential tying run in scoring position.

Despite the pressure, Varland composed himself and navigated the inning without further damage. He struck out Victor Robles and forced J.P. Crawford to ground out, escaping the jam with only one run scoring. Varland's ability to limit the damage helped maintain the Blue Jays' slim 2-3 deficit, keeping Toronto's chances alive.

Seattle starting pitcher Bryce Miller delivered an impressive outing, especially considering he was pitching on just three days of rest. After allowing a home run to George Springer in the first inning and a single to Anthony Santander in the second, Miller settled into a rhythm, retiring 17 of the last 19 batters he faced.

Miller's strong performance effectively silenced the Toronto Blue Jays' offense, holding them hitless after the second inning. Despite the early scoring, Miller's ability to bounce back and pitch effectively was crucial for the Mariners, setting his team up for success in Game 1 of the ALCS.

Seattle starting pitcher Bryce Miller delivered a solid performance, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out three and walking three. Miller's effective outing set the Mariners up for success in Game 1.

Gabe Speier relieved Miller in the seventh inning and navigated the frame without allowing any damage. Speier's inning was highlighted by an incredible sliding catch from left fielder Randy Arozarena, who robbed a potential hit to end the inning and preserve the Mariners' lead.

Randal Arozarena continued to showcase his speed and aggression on the basepaths, drawing a walk in the top of the eighth inning. He then pulled off an impressive double steal, swiping both second and third base with just one out. This daring move put pressure on the Blue Jays' defense.

Jorge Polanco proved once again why he's been Mr. Clutch for the Mariners. With Arozarena in scoring position, Polanco delivered an RBI single to bring Arozarena home, extending the Mariners' lead to 3-1. This was Polanco's second clutch hit of the night, and it capped off a stellar performance where he went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Polanco's walk-off win in Game 5 of the ALDS has now been followed up with a crucial hit in Game 1 of the ALCS.

The Seattle Mariners' bullpen delivered a flawless performance, retiring batters without allowing a hit, walk, or run while striking out three. Seattle's pitching staff as a whole managed to keep the game under control, keeping the pitch count low and not exceeding 100 pitches.

The Toronto Blue Jays struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile, Jorge Polanco was the standout hitter for the Mariners, going 2-for-10 at the plate. Both of Seattle's hits in critical situations came courtesy of Polanco's bat.

Game 2 of the ALCS is set to take place on Monday, October 13th, with the Mariners looking to take a 2-0 lead in the series. The Blue Jays, however, will aim to even the series and bounce back from their Game 1 loss.
