West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo addressed the media ahead of their crucial match against Arsenal, expressing confidence despite the team's recent struggles.

“It's a good record to have going to Arsenal, it gives us confidence...”

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is rallying his fans, urging them to get behind the team as they face a crucial match against Arsenal. Nuno Espirito Santo has spoken ahead of this week's trip to Arsenal, where West Ham will look to continue their impressive form.

West Ham have remarkably won their last two league games away to Arsenal without conceding a single goal. However, they also hold the unwanted record of losing more Premier League London derbies than any other team, making this upcoming match a challenging one.

Nuno highlighted the impressive statistic of West Ham's last two wins against Arsenal, showcasing his confidence in the team's abilities. With key players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka returning to training, Nuno faces a big decision on how to shape his team for the match against Arsenal.

“It's a good record to have going to Arsenal, it gives us confidence,he said. “But we are aware that we will face a very good opponent, good manager and so many solutions, in a good momentum, it's a good test.”

After taking the reins from Graham Potter, who was let go by West Ham United last week, the new manager is set to reshape the club's culture. Potter's departure came after a disappointing start to the season, with the team winning only once in six games. He expressed gratitude to the staff, players, and fans, wishing the club well for the future.

“We have to compete, this is the main message that has been passed to me,” Nuno stated.

“We need to compete, be strong, be brave, this is the West Ham way. Let's try!”

James Ward-Prowse's Future Looks Uncertain

James Ward-Prowse's future at West Ham United appears to be bleak under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Ward-Prowse was omitted from the squad for the match against Everton, sparking rumors about his future at the club.

"What I see is that we are trying to know the players as soon as possible, as best as we can, so we can make the proper solutions and decisions.

“James was not involved. Let's see, we still have one more training session (before Saturday),” he said.

“We always have the mindset of what the team needs and what we want. The season is long, it's too soon to say what we expect. We need the full squad and everyone healthy.”

Rising Tensions Between West Ham Fans and Club Hierarchy

Tensions are escalating between West Ham United fans and the club's hierarchy, with supporters expressing growing discontent with owner David Sullivan and vice-chairman Karren Brady. The fan base has been vocal about their frustrations, chanting “sack the board” and “Sullivan out” during matches, including the recent game against Everton. Protests have also been organized outside the London Stadium, with fans calling for change in the club's leadership.

“(We want to) bring the fans closer to us, the fans were there in Liverpool (against Everton) and the help they gave us was amazing. On Saturday they will be there supporting us, so it's up to us to give back.” he said.

“These issues you mentioned (fan advisory board writing to club about concerns) is something that is not up to me. What I'm worried about is the bond between the team and the fans, it's really important. The boys, when they get the help of the fans, feel free and feel joy.”

Graham Potter's exit from West Ham United came swiftly, just a day after he held a news conference on Friday afternoon. In a show of respect, Nuno Espirito Santo, his replacement, was asked about Potter's departure. Nuno took over as the new manager of West Ham United on Saturday, September 28, 2025, after Potter's dismissal. Potter managed just six wins in 25 games, leaving the team 19th in the Premier League. Despite the abrupt nature of his exit, Potter expressed disappointment at leaving the club without achieving his goals. Nuno, who signed a three-year contract, faces the challenge of turning West Ham's season around.

“We as managers don't choose, we are chosen.” said Potter's replacement.

“The timing and decisions is not what us coaches make. I have sympathy for Graham, he is someone I really admire and I've known him personally for many years. I have huge respect for him and his coaching staff.”

What's Next?

Ward-Prowse's future will likely be determined in the January transfer window, with West Ham open to offers and Southampton potentially leading the charge. His situation will continue to unfold as the transfer window approaches.
