Luuk de Jong's Emotional Farewell: PSV Pays Tribute to Striker
Luuk de Jong's tearful goodbye, PSV pays emotional tribute

Luuk de Jong receives emotional farewell from PSV, becoming the first active player to join the club's Walk of Fame.

“I wanted to say goodbye, because at the end of last season I still didn't know what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go...”

Luuk de Jong expressed his gratitude for the heartfelt tribute he received from PSV, saying it was a tremendous honor to be included in the club's Walk of Fame.

The 35-year-old striker is currently rehabilitating a left knee injury and has returned to Portugal with renewed energy, thanks to the warm reception he received from his former club. De Jong noted that the emotional farewell has given him a boost to accelerate his recovery process.

“It gave me a lot of strength to continue recovering from the injury,” he said. “Being injured is always complicated, you have to work alone in the gym, but I'm managing it. Going back there and receiving a big farewell from PSV gave me even more energy to get back as soon as possible.”

His last season with PSV ended uncertainly, with his contract expiring and the striker unsure whether to stay or leave. So, a proper goodbye held great significance.

“I wanted to say goodbye, because at the end of last season I still didn't know what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go. I didn't know if I could say goodbye to PSV, even though my contract was up. It was very difficult.

“It was very emotional. At half-time, I walked round the pitch and the fans gave me a standing ovation and chanted my name.”

New Chapter in Porto

Despite a tough start due to injury, Luuk de Jong is confident he made the right move to Porto.

"I'm happy with the moment I chose FC Porto, it was a great decision for me,” he said.

"Unfortunately, I've had the injury now... I hope to make an impact here too and win trophies.

“That's my goal of course, to leave a mark here at FC Porto too.”
