KuPS has taken the lead in the Veikkausliiga standings, pulling three points clear at the top with only three matches left to play. The Kuopio-based team secured a crucial 1-0 victory over SJK in Seinajoki, thanks to a late own goal by Samuel Chukwudi.

The win was a significant boost for KuPS, who had briefly lost their top spot to Inter Turku earlier in the weekend. However, KuPS's draw with HJK created an opportunity for them to widen the gap between themselves and the chasing pack. With this win, KuPS now has 60 points, while Inter follows with 57 points and Ilves at 56 points.

However, taking down SJK wouldn't be a walk in the park, considering they were on a four-match winning streak and just three points behind the top spot when the match kicked off.

Although SJK struggled to find the target in the first half, with only one shot on target, it was still the most promising chance of the opening 45 minutes. Fortunately for them, Johannes Kreidl made a crucial save to deny Kasper Paananen.

Doni Arifi and Agon Sadiku were standout performers for the visitors, but despite their efforts, it seemed like the deadlock would never be broken, and KuPS would have to settle for a narrow one-point lead. However, the breakthrough finally came in the 90th minute.

A KuPS corner kick to the back post proved to be the turning point. Samuel Chukwudi attempted to clear the ball with a header but got it all wrong, inadvertently directing the ball into his own net. The own goal handed KuPS a 1-0 win, much to the delight of the home fans.

KuPS's six-game unbeaten streak in the league received a boost with their 1-0 win over SJK. The win was a stroke of good fortune for KuPS, and their next match is against Gnistan, who have nothing to play for.

The own goal suffered by SJK has significantly impacted their title aspirations. With three matches left to play, SJK now trails the new league leaders by six points and sits two points behind Ilves, who occupy the final European spot.
