Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has cast doubt over Lamine Yamal's return date after the young winger suffered a groin injury.

“This injury is not so easy, like a muscle (injury), we have this experience with (those), the coaches, the therapists...”

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is uncertain about Lamine Yamal's return date due to the complexity of his groin injury. Initially, the club stated that Yamal would be out for two to three weeks, but Flick believes this timeframe might be longer. The 18-year-old winger suffered a recurrence of the injury during Barcelona's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Yamal's participation in the upcoming Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26 is uncertain. Flick emphasized the need for caution, stating that with this type of injury, it's challenging to predict a return date. “With this kind of injury, it's not easy to say now, okay, he can play in two weeks, in three weeks or four weeks, so he's able to play in the Clasico — this is not possible,” Flick said. The coach wants to manage Yamal's workload and have him train with the recovery team to monitor his progress.

Flick also expressed concerns about Yamal playing with pain-killing injections, criticizing Spain coach Luis de la Fuente for allowing it. “I don't regret this, I want to protect my players,” Flick said, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing player health. Yamal will miss Spain's World Cup qualifiers, but the goal is to have him ready for future matches.

Lamine Yamal won't be able to participate in Spain's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria due to a recurring groin injury. Barcelona confirmed that the 18-year-old winger is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks after the problem resurfaced following their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

This injury puts Yamal's availability for the highly anticipated Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26 in doubt. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has expressed no conflict with Barcelona coach Hansi Flick over the injury, despite Flick's earlier criticism of the national team's handling of Yamal's fitness.

Yamal's absence will add to Spain's challenges, as they'll also be without Nico Williams and Dani Carvajal for the qualifiers. Spain currently tops Group E with six points from two matches.

“This injury is not so easy, like a muscle (injury), we have this experience with (those), the coaches, the therapists.

“With this kind of injury, it's not easy to say now, okay, he can play in two weeks, in three weeks or four weeks, so he's able to play in the Clasico -- this is not possible.

“We have to wait... we have to manage his (work) load. He will train with our recovery team, so for the next weeks he is with them, we have to go step by step and have to see how his evolution is.”

Lamine Yamal's groin injury is proving to be more complicated than initially thought, and Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is uncertain about the player's return date. Yamal suffered a recurrence of the injury during Wednesday's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, which he played despite having been voted the second-best player in the world at the Ballon d'Or gala recently. This latest setback means Yamal will likely miss Barcelona's upcoming La Liga fixture against Sevilla and Spain's World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria.

Flick mentioned that he spoke with Yamal on Saturday, and the player gave him some positive news about his condition. However, Flick emphasized that the injury is not simple to heal from and that they need to manage Yamal's workload carefully to avoid further setbacks. The coach wants Yamal to train with the recovery team and monitor his progress before making any decisions about his return to the field.

Yamal's availability for the highly anticipated Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26 is uncertain, and Flick is prioritizing the player's health over any upcoming matches. The coach had previously criticized Spain's national team for playing Yamal in September's World Cup qualifiers, which he believes exacerbated the injury.

“I spoke with him today and it's much better than before, but it's not good,” said the coach, ahead of Sunday's LaLiga clash against Sevilla.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick are at odds over the handling of Lamine Yamal's injury. Flick criticized De la Fuente for playing Yamal in Spain's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Turkey, suggesting the young player was allowed to play with pain-killing injections. De la Fuente shot back, saying he expected more empathy from Flick, given his experience as a national team coach.

De la Fuente emphasized that players often experience discomfort after matches and that the medical staff had explained Yamal's situation. “What happened was that, when the match ended, he had some kind of discomfort. But I have never played without discomfort. Nothing happened,” De la Fuente said. He added that there's no conflict with Flick, but he was surprised by the German coach's comments.

The dispute hasn't affected Spain's focus on the World Cup qualifiers, with De la Fuente prioritizing the upcoming matches against Georgia and Bulgaria. “We are playing for the World Cup, that is what really matters. The rest is not important. Everyone said what they said, and that's it,” De la Fuente said, downplaying the spat with Flick.

“I don't regret this, I want to protect my players,” added Flick.

“It's done now, for me it's over, we have to look forwards... the important thing is that we manage this together, the clubs and the federation.”
