CAF Awards 2025: Top Contenders Revealed for African Player of the Year

The Confederation of African Football has announced the top 10 finalists for the 2025 African Player of the Year award, featuring a star-studded lineup.


The notable nominees include Achraf Hakimi from Paris Saint-Germain, Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, Serhou Guirassy from Borussia Dortmund, and Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, who will compete for the prestigious award at the upcoming CAF Awards ceremony...



The Confederation of African Football has announced the nominees for the 2025 African Player of the Year award, with Achraf Hakimi, Mohamed Salah, Serhou Guirassy, and Victor Osimhen among the top contenders. These four stars will battle it out for the coveted award at the upcoming CAF Awards ceremony.


The 10-man shortlist features a mix of talented players from various countries and leagues, showcasing Africa's rich football talent. Alongside Hakimi, Salah, Guirassy, and Osimhen are other notable players like Andre Frank Zambo-Anguissa, Fiston Mayele, Denis Bouanga, Oussama Lamlioui, Iliman Ndiaye, and Pape Matar Sarr.


Mohamed Salah, a two-time winner of the award, and Achraf Hakimi, who finished sixth in the Ballon d'Or, are the favorites to win. The award ceremony will honor outstanding achievements in African football, recognizing the best players, coaches, and teams of the year.


The list of nominees also includes several notable African players. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, who plays for Napoli, is a skilled midfielder from Cameroon. Denis Bouanga, a Gabonese star, has been making waves in Major League Soccer with his team, Los Angeles FC.






Other notable nominees include Pape Matar Sarr from Senegal, who has been impressing with Tottenham Hotspur, and Fiston Mayele, a talented player from the Democratic Republic of Congo who represents Pyramids FC. Additionally, Oussama Lamlioui from Morocco, who plays for Renaissance Berkane, and Iliman Ndiaye from Senegal, who has been playing for Everton, are also part of the list.


The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the nominees for the 2025 CAF Awards, with reigning African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman surprisingly missing the shortlist for Men's Player of the Year. Instead, stars like Mohamed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, and Victor Osimhen lead the pack. The nominees were chosen based on their performances between January 6 and October 15, 2025.


A panel of experts from the CAF Technical and Development Committee, seasoned coaches, CAF Legends, and selected media representatives carefully selected the top 10 nominees for each category. Their choices were based on outstanding performances in various competitions during the specified period. The awards will honor the best players, coaches, clubs, and national teams in African football.
