Former Manchester United winger Antony has spoken out about his tumultuous departure from the club, citing a “lack of respect” and “rudeness” from the management. Antony was left out of Ruben Amorim's plans and forced to train with the reserves, also missing out on the club's preseason tour.
Factors Contributing to Antony's Departure
Lack of Respect: Antony felt disrespected by the club's behavior, particularly the lack of basic courtesy, such as greetings.
Rudeness: He described the treatment as rude, claiming that nobody would even give him a good morning or good afternoon.
Off-Field Matters: Antony acknowledged that personal issues affected his performance on the pitch, but he takes responsibility for not meeting expectations.
Antony eventually rejoined Real Betis in the summer, following a successful loan spell with the Spanish side during the second half of last season. He expressed his focus on his new life at Betis, stating that the past is behind him. Antony joined Betis permanently after Manchester United accepted a €22 million transfer fee.

Antony expressed his disappointment and frustration with his time at Manchester United, feeling disrespected and treated rudely by the club's environment. After joining from Ajax in 2022 for a potential fee exceeding £86 million, Antony struggled to replicate his form, scoring just 12 goals in 96 appearances. Eight of those goals came in his first season, and his performance dipped dramatically afterward.
“I am a man who accepts my responsibilities,” said Antony.
“I think off-field matters affected me a lot, in my performance. I know my potential, I know my qualities, I didn't play in a World Cup for nothing, I didn't return to the national team for nothing.
“I also take responsibility for it not working out, for not performing as I wanted. But I always try to see the bright side of things, going through this entire process, this time at United, was necessary to see myself.”
Despite the challenges, Antony takes responsibility for his performance and acknowledges that his time at United was a learning experience. He has since moved to Real Betis, where he has found success, scoring 10 times in 30 games. Antony has expressed happiness with his decision, stating that his time at United is in the past and he's focused on his new life at Betis.
